Isn't the Olympics one of the 'crown jewels' of UK TV, which have to be broadcast free to air?

I suspect that's why the BBC have been 'allowed' the amount of coverage that they've got. The crown jewels rule will be an old rule that only covers linear TV rights and so the BBC are showing the same level of linear TV coverage as they've always done. But all the on demand and streaming stuff presumably isn't covered by the rules as they would have been written in the analogue age and consequently Eurosport have nabbed all those rights.

3x3 Basketball is a strange looking sport. One basket where two teams are shooting into the same basket. It's like playing on a single hoop in a back garden or the school playground, but as an official game with defined scoring zones . What next, Olympic 'wallie' where you kick a football against a wall?

Have to admit the competition only starts for me when we have the athletics. Not arsed with BMX racing, shooting or the snakes and ladders.

Just a shame when you watch athletics there is that nagging about about some athletes now.

It's a sport people all around the world can do which makes it more appealing than other events.

The BBC will have swimming/cycling/athletics plus anything GB related on the main channel and then anything else on the red button.

There's always been a nagging doubt about athletes to be honest. And cyclists. I tend to just approach it in a deliberately naive way. Enjoy the spectacle and take it at face value and if they come out as being cheats years later then so be it. Rather than looking suspiciously at athletes who make sudden improvements or who seem to be performing at super human levels etc and spoiling the spectacle with cynicism. It doesn't really achieve anything other than being able to claim 'I was right' when people get busted in the future.

Yes I don't mind the athletics. Bur discussing it with a fellow ex pat yesterday we realised that we have no idea of any of the sprinters or middle distance runners names this time. In the old days they were household names.

I have watched some of the other sports like taekwondo this morning. Not something am familar with viewing so thought give it a go.

I do draw the line at skateboarding though..... that is something a 13 year old does after school

    Each to their own though.
