6 Golds 8 Silvers 6 Bronzes 3rd in the table . It was good to watch a couple of local athletes yesterday with Lee Manning bossing the basketball court as GB beat the Algerians & Jason Cundy grabbing a Silver in the velodrome .
I go on Twitter every day, I don't see people patronising the athletes, but then I don't look for it. My own admiration is entirely sincere, can't claim to speak for anyone else.
Wow , the mixed wheelchair rugby was pretty hardcore , you need some bottle to play that & our boys & girls have just beaten the world champions Japan to reach the final so another gold or silver guaranteed to add to 12 Golds 11 Silvers 14 Bronzes 2nd in the medal table , good stuff
I'm disabled, and I'll cheer on the f**K who I want without a hint of patronizing anybody thanks. Nothing is ever perfect, and it's not only disabled athletes who face adversity. Most have to struggle to get on without funding etc...with only an elite few being prioritized. When I see things like a man with no arms or legs winning a silver medal in backstroke swimming I cheer not from a patronizing point of view...just sheer admiration.
Tell that to my lungs lol. I'm not one for self pity though, when I was in a bad way in hospital, I still saw many who were worse situation and at least I'm still here. I even refused to reapply for a disabled badge, even though I'm entitled to one. The scheme is so abused and some people just think they can park where they want no matter how stupid when armed with the blue badge. And yes I'm complicated lol.
Ark , you're a fisherman , you could be the best fisherman in the world blue badge or no blue badge , good lungs or bad lungs , you have ABILITIES . Never been a fan of the term disabled if folks who are classed as that get it stuck into their head then it can become a negative stigma.
And I'm disabled in some ways...as you seem to be with not liking the word disabled? I don't feel negative in any way and don't let it stop me doing stuff. I'm fully aware I have abilities and I'm pretty sure those folks at the paralympics aren't being negative as being classed as disabled......you don't work for the DHSS do you.....they seem to have a hard time classing people as disabled as well...
Ha ha , not DHSS Ark but prior to Covid happening part of my job would be to take people around my workplace on a tour & other than people who have mobility issues they could do all the tasks that we do on a daily basis . The medal table is looking very good . 20 Golds 15 Silvers 16 Bronzes
Back up to 2nd , just with Dame Sarah Storey becoming the most medaled British Paralympian . Medal table 32 Golds 26 Silver 32 Bronze The Russians just 1 medal behind with The People's Republic of Judea hot on their coat tails
Over the 100 mark medal wise now & consolidating 2nd although our table tennis guy William Bayley is currently getting a bit of a whooping . 37 Golds 27 Silver 38 Bronze Total 102 .
I've been enjoying C4's coverage of the Paralympics, especially 'The Last Leg', but I took issue with their suggestion a couple of days ago of replacing the phrase "going toe to toe" (because many of the athletes don't have toes) with "going head to head" . As president of the Conjoined Twins Three-Legged Race Team, we both find this suggestion to be in very poor taste.
The medal table is looking even healthier today & 5 Golds ahead of the US who are now in 3rd . 40 Golds 36 Silver 41 Bronzes Total of 117 , target of 100 passed , will they make 140 which will be 7 short of Rio but with some athletes sat at home due to the last 18 months still a great achievement. Ukraine & Azerbaijan doing well in medal table , surprised at some of the bigger populated European countries are not doing better , I won't name & shame .
