I think the best way I could summarise Southgate’s tournament is that he has overachieved and surpassed considerably the very low expectations people had for the team. There’s no doubt that Southgate has improved the team (right at the last minute when it could have been done earlier, I add), has added a belief and togetherness that hadn’t existed previously and has moved them in the right direction. However, it also needs to be noted that those expectations did not factor in the run of games we had in the end. Given the opportunity we had and what I think is generally agreed as being tactical naivety and a stubbornness against changing the team/formation/mindset even when it stopped and/or was failing to work held England back from improving as much as we could have done. Euro 2020 is a weird one. We should have at least two and possibly three matches at Wembley (if Scotland do not qualify) otherwise it could be two at Wembley and one at Hampden from memory which may (or may not) be an advantage.
But we didn't beat anyone good The only good sides we played were Belgium ( twice ) And Croatia and lost em all
But England is not a good side dumbo! That's why we are happy they progressed as we were expecting a second round defeat, or worse. Instead we have seen several baby steps in improvement. I still don't understand why you think we shouldn't be happy with progress so far. You seem to think we should expect to win every game, otherwise it's not good enough. You ignore the fact that the team is not very talented. Change the record! You are so negative.
We couldn't have picked a better bunch of games Panama, Tunisia, Columbia, Sweden and Croatia Even Scotland or wales would fancy winning 3 of those and that's saying summat
