Died after a heart attack today. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/andy-king-rip-everton-fc-9339730
Yeah he was a decent player Dave, remember him well, not too fondly mind you given who he played for.
Too young to have known anything of his playing career. He had done a great job as our Chief Scout though since joining us last year and we're going to miss him sorely next season. Looking at the reaction on Twitter a lot of our staff and players are absolutely devastated, it's completely out of the blue. RIP to him and my thoughts go out to his family and friends at the club.
Complete one off, hell of a character. Absolutely superb eye for a player and I don't think there's been a better Swindon side in the last 20 odd years than the one he assembled in 03/04. R.I.P Kingy
Only saw the subject title and assumed Leicester's Andy King. Too young to have watched King in his playing days, still such a young age to die though. RIP.
He was a regular customer in our family newsagents, and for a few years I had the privilege of calling him a friend ( until I moved down South with my work, and we lost touch). He was a lovely fella, the life and soul of the party, always up for a laugh, and (although it's a cliche) he did love the birds, the booze and the betting; which undoubtedly meant that he never realised his true potential. The first time he left Everton, it was in an attempt to clear his gambling debts, with his % of the transfer fee. One story that may make you smile, is when a friend and I drove him home after a lunchtime session (which perhaps had gone on a little too long). Bob was driving, Andy was in the passenger seat, and I was in the back. As we approached Andy's home, laughing and joking, we could see writing on the front of his house. His then wife, had painted "F**k Off" in giant letters. We all fell silent; Bob stopped the car to let Andy out; and uttered the words, "It's okay Andy, I don't think we'll come in."
