Really seemed a rather unique person to the football world. Against the grain of what your usual footballer was, and ended up making a lasting mark on a footballing country which isn't even his own, RIP

Sad news. Seeming there isn’t really much of a link between our clubs it’s strange how many players are fondly thought of at both Brighton and Liverpool. Maybe it’s down to the cities sharing a few traits?

Obviously he was before my time but my mum & granddad always talked very fondly of him. In fact, his name still gets sung in passing at Brighton games quite a lot.

In 1983, we went to Wembley.
To play Man United and make history.
Robbo was through and he passed it to Smith.
The stupid Scot bastard was pissed and he missed.”
