Nor is it the same Liverpool. Arsenal is the same though. Final straight and stumbling. It's another asterisk, put your life's savings on it.
Nice attempt at deflection. Now it’s in our hands, of course we’re favourites, but the way Arsenal and Liverpool fans have seemingly thrown in the towel is embarassing. It’s far from a foregone conclusion.
That's what happens when you fall behind the side that historically don't lose matches in the run in In a litereal sense, of course it's not over. Win tonight and we're top again. We play a further league match before you do so an opportunity is still there. But look at it from our point of view. In the tight title races of 2019, 2022 and 2023, in the months of April and May, Manchester City dropped points in 2 matches before winning the title. One of those matches was against a title rival. Played 25, won 23, drawn 2. Please excuse us for thinking it's now a difficult task ahead I think how Arsenal and Liverpool look like they have dropped off a cliff is contributing too. Arsenal are winless in 3 matches and haven't scored in our last 2. Liverpool haven't scored from open play in their last 3 matches. I want to believe, I partially do but sometimes your eyes don't lie and I know what team looks the strongest right now. Edit: Just to provide more context for you, in the last 2 years Arsenal have won 9 out of 20 matches in April and May.
This for me is the key, or certainly in our case. We have played mediocre football for months, requiring multiple good chances per goal scored. A few months back we still managed to get through games with the right result despite that. Now though, we're struggling and have picked up a point in our last two games against run of the mill clubs. And including in one of those was two consecutive losses at Anfield. So it's not a case of "throwing in the towel" it's a case of seeing the writing on the wall and being realistic. I'm simply thankful we have enough of a gap between us and 4th right now to see us through to the end of the season.
We’re hardly playing brilliantly ourselves. A few of our key players are out of form, and as we’ve just seen most of them are knackered. Thursday night at Brighton isn’t a gimme, and we have shit record ar Spurs, which is another midweek game.
Brighton are shite right now, but Spurs game very realistic City drop points in. Spurs have something to play for now.
You've scored 13 goals in your last 3 league games, including 4 away against the team that's just beaten Liverpool at home.
Liverpool have won one title in the PL era Matt. One in almost thirty five years. Arsenal haven't won one in decade. Man City have won five out last six and its completely in yours hands to make it four on bounce and six out last seven. Obviously it isn't 100% given because strange things can happen in football but it baffles me how you're not confident of getting job done from this position based on previous seasons and absurd and unthinkable amounts of successes. You've got to be hot favourites now the only people I expect to think otherwise are the 4 dickheads on here but nobody cares what they think anyway.
At no point have I said I'm not confident, or that we're not now favourites, but the fact that now we've nudged ahead by a couple of points with 6 games to go has made everyone go "It's done. Give them the title now", which is absurd.
Arsenal fans know they can't keep up and Liverpool fans are used to coming in second at this point. No sense in them faking it.
Arsenal better placed to keep pace imo. They have been in good form in the league for a while now and are still unbeaten this calendar year, Liverpool have been conceding first in an alarming rate of games again. In the end it would be poor for Arsenal to finish behind this Liverpool side given they finished nearly 20 points ahead of them last season, and Liverpool have made wholesale changes to the squad. I do also maintain that Arteta needs to start lifting some silverware given this is his 4th full season in charge now. If I had to rate the chances of each I'd say City have a 70% chance, Arsenal have a 20% chance, and Liverpool a 10% chance.
I said months back, when City were meant to be "struggling" that it won't make a difference and that they would ultimately succeed in taking that asterisk given how often we have seen them go unbeaten in the final straight, which we're very much in right now. They have been here so many times. They could end up 4 points behind both Arsenal and Liverpool by the time they play next but it doesn't mean a whole lot when we all know they will win both their games in hand. They will finish on 91 points, both Arsenal and Liverpool will be on less than 90.
Not at all, we've shot our bolt, running on fumes, we are well and truly out of it now. Too many injuries, too much pressure to deliver Klopp trophies, whatever its been, but ever since we failed to beat United a couple of times we've just ran out of energy/ideas/confidence/whatever we're now looking more like we did last season than this. We've been destroyed by an ordinary Atalanta, failed to beat a bang average United side twice and been humbled by Palace on our own patch...thats not Premier League winners form that, anyone can see. If we'd have been unlucky losing games or still looked good, I'd not have thrown the towel in, but we've been woeful at times. Strangely, our form has badly dropped since injured players started returning, barely any of them bar Robertson has looked anywhere near their usual selves and those that havent been injured look knackered and in need of a break.
