Wolves captain Roger Johnson is to be disciplined by the club after turning up for training worse for wear. It is understood the £4.5m summer signing drowned his sorrows after Sunday’s 5-0 defeat to Fulham. Then he turned up for training the next day showing the effects of alcohol, which was noticed by colleagues. The matter was reported to new manager Terry Connor, who informed chief executive Jez Moxey. Moxey contacted owner Steve Morgan and the chairman intends to discipline Johnson. His fine is expected to be two weeks’ wages, which is understood to run to over £50,000. Johnson has been dropped from the team for the last two games under new boss Connor. “Roger was involved in a breach of club discipline on Monday for which he has apologised and accepted his punishment,” said Connor. Johnson has apologised for his actions, and said: “My conduct and approach to training on Monday was below the high standard the club rightly needs and demands from me – and what I demand from myself. “I have apologised to the manager, my team-mates and the club.” It is the latest blow relating to Johnson, who has struggled for form for much of the season since his big-money move from St. Andrew’s last summer. There will now be a debate as to whether Johnson can keep the captaincy, and Connor was due to field questions his press conference this afternoon. But reports claiming Johnson has been sent to train with the development squad as part of his punishment are wide of the mark. It is normal procedure for the substitutes from the first-team game at the weekend to train with the development squad on the Monday, while those in the starting XI undertake a warm-down session. Johnson joined fellow subs from the Fulham game Steven Fletcher, Eggert Jonsson, Stephen Hunt, Nenad Milijas, Sebastien Bassong and Dorus De Vries in training with the youngsters. Connor has changed the training routine this week in a bid to crush any psychological problems the players may have at playing at Molineux after their 5-1 debacle the last time they played there. So instead of training at Compton, they have reported straight to the stadium for training there Tuesday and today, while they have also had breakfast and lunch at Molineux. They are due to report back there tomorrow. Read more: http://www.expressandstar.com/sport...r-roger-johnson-in-booze-shame/#ixzz1oWiZwq2Y
Don't blame him. I'd need a stiff drink after a game like that as well. Shame isn't it, he could have been a real contender for England if he pushed on from last seasons performances.
We should get to the end of the season and try and punt this bloke on. He's really really bad, exceptionally slow and has a bad attitude. I don't want him at Wolves anymore.
Was going to post something about this chap. Disgraceful player who goes face to face with his own goalkeeper. Whilst I am not going to claim to know much about wolves this season, this bloke is a disgrace and I can't see any club wanting to spend money on him. Plus he looks shit
