I couldn't find an official announcement post, but Australia have pulled out of the running, so Saudi Arabia are the only bidder's now.

Why Saudi 2034 World Cup should not surprise anyone < the beeb link has some details about the bidding process.

As always with FIFA, the transparency, the human rights, they've made a rod for their own back before they've started.

Much like Qatar, I won't be watching this. But interested to know others' thoughts on the goings on.

FIFA talk about growing the game then give two successive Asian World Cups to two countries right next to each other.

    2034 World Cup. ;)

Yeah, unbelievable....ok, not so unbelievable  FIFA Boss Infantino settled to Qatar for the last World Cup so maybe he wants now to live in Saudi and blathering that THIS will be the best World Cup ever (after he said similar to Qatar and we all know what a shite one this was (free from the German performance).

I'm sure that has nothing to do with "developing the football worldwide" as FIFA often proclaims. It's again all about bribing and....forget it, it's not worth to exhaust about FIFA.

As for watching: Like Qatar I only watch the German matches (if we qualify )

Not amused by this decision. Australia (plus other countries) would have me hooked way way more not this desert.

Are the temperatures in summer similar to Qatar so they have to play in Winter again? Sorry, about my lack of knowledge about this whole region there. I never was and never will be near this region. Those temperatures are not made for northerners like me ;)

    edit:
I should calm down. Just noticed that this is still 11 years away. I'll be 71 then and maybe already 6ft under :whistle

So they will have to play in winter again. Australia and New Zealand should co-host if FIFA want to grow the game. Plus the stadiums and infrastructure are already in place.

I will definitely watch as I love a WC. But I will feel dirty and punish myself for doing so...

Hoped for the Aussie bid, but not sure they're in the financial position to do so. Shame, but we're in the sportswashing era and it's showing no signs of stopping.

After the success of the Womens World Cup, Australia were buzzing to get the men's version to be held here in 2034, the Saudis showed an interest and the Aussie FA dropped it like a hot kabsa. I hope the pay off was worth it..

By 2034 it’ll be more unusual to find major sporting events that aren’t held in the Middle East.

I doubt there would have needed to be one. After the Qatar tournament was completed relatively successfully, it was pretty obvious Saudi Arabia would look to host as soon as it was able. No point in Australia or pretty much anyone else going up against them.

They weren't given enough time. FIFA basically gave everyone a few eeks to prepare a bid as they announced out of the blue the process would be done early, basically as they had already been bribed to give it to the Saudis.

Mate, did you check out the grounds that are going to host the next Rugby World Cup? Completely unrelated I know but takes me back (y'know, 2 months later).

2027 Rugby World Cup - Wikipedia

Used the same Sydney grounds (central & Stadium Australia) and added one in Parramatta, took the Melbourne one (Rectangular Stadium) and added the Marvel Stadium (outside the Grand Slam complex), took the Brisbane one (as well they should, awesome ground), took a decent Adelaide ground (didn't go to that one but the WWC one looked rubbish) & same with Perth. They did add places though: Canberra, Newcastle & the Gold Coast make a lot of sense but never heard of Townsville. Not sure why they didn't pick places like Cairns (was told that was the most rugby place in the country), Port Douglas or Darwin.
Oh and no ground in Tanzania?

Sorry for taking this thread off topic but thought I'd give my view on that. It is what could have been the grounds if Australia were to host a World Cup (someday in 2130).
