The last England v Scotland major tournament match was one of the international football highlights of my teens. That goal from Gazza, what an absolute moment. Euro 96 is remembered as a great tournament for England and we could easily have won it. But it's often forgotten that we were shit in the build up to the tournament and shit for a game and a half in the tournament itself. The 1-1 opening draw against Switzerland was dire and the first half against Scotland wasn't great either. But after McAllister missed that penalty something clicked and that goal from Gazza seemed to really spark something and we wiped the floor with the Dutch in the next game and went on from there. I just hope fans are allowed because what an atmosphere there will be at all of Scotland's games if there is a crowd.
I had completely forgotten that Scotland would be in the same group as England and for some strange reason, I actually wanted them to win (I rarely Do). Setting up that night in June just makes it even better! I remember 96 well. I was in a new extension at a local pub. It hadn't yet been fitted out, so they just put a big screen up and the place was packed! When Scotland got that penalty, there was one loan Scott who suddenly became very noisy... A couple of minutes later, following the save by Seaman and the goal by Gazza, he was the loneliest man in town
Excellent last night and fully deserved to go through. Callum Galagher was excellent at the back and McGregor controlled the match, he was a class above. Thought Clarke ****ed it with his poor use of substitutions which made us weaker but thankfully we still managed it.
Buzzing for Robertson, tremendous achievement for him and the rest of the squad. Congrats @Minty, @Andy-gers1, @SALTIRE and co, bet there were some sore heads today .
Won't be reflected in the stadium though- England fans have had over a year advantage to snap up tickets for the game knowing England would be playing in it. You lot can take over Trafalgar Square like Sunderland did on their big day out
Scotland fa s have always got their hands on tickets for Wembley. Might not be on the same level but this will be no different.
Will definitely be interesting to see how they approach segregation, considering at most tournament games each team has a 'section' but largely the fans are mixed. Not sure that will fly with 90,000 Scottish + England people of whom the vast majority have been on an all day session before
