    Hi Liverpool supporters

Interested to know who do you think is the greater club legend and better manager between Shankly and Paisley.

One quick look shows that Paisley won and led you to more honours. However, Shankly laid the foundations and put you on the map. It can be argued that without Shankly, Paisley might not have achieved the success he did. So my question is

    1. Who is the bigger legend for the club?

    2. Who is the better manager? If you are in a cup final and you have to pick one to manage you, who would you choose?

Shankly probably the bigger legend but Paisley the slightly better manager, at least judging by his silverware. I think it's nearly impossible to give a definitive answer without living through both era's though imo.

Both are almost inseparable and you can't really think of one without the other really.

Understand where you are coming from. Not really looking for a definitive answer anyway. There's no right or wrong to this question. Just wanted to know the opinions that's all.

  4. Shankly is the charisma and the drive. He set the standards to follow and had the aura to deliver. He also made mistakes to learn form like having his first team age on him.

Paisley was a quiet gentleman but ruthless. He had at least 3 teams in there he built which on its own over the period of success was huge, he learned from shankly's mistakes and learnings imo and applied every lesson.

It is like a roman sitting down and wondering if Julius Caeser or Octavian was the greater emperor ;)

I have to agree with Machida. Fagan, paisley and moran were shankly's men and they all did the job. Would paisley have been able to build us up form the 2nd divisions to european contenders? probably not but was the the right man to bring us to another level? yes. You cannot really separate the two as one without the other is lessened.

Two great managers that did two very different jobs

Shankly took us from a nothing team struggling in the second division and laid the foundations of a footballing dynasty.

Paisley then took over and took us to another level or ten.

Shankly probably has more of a legendary status due to his personality, whereas Paisley was a lot more reserved and let his team do the talking.

Cup Final who would I pick? Shanks.....with Paisley as his number 2 ;)
