I agree that the players and interactions make the game. However the actual matches themselves aren’t very interactive. In fact apart from picking your team you have literally no agency over the matches. This means transfers are the main interaction you have with each other. The problem is you have 3 options when it comes to transfers. You leave transfers as they are which makes the computers AI very easy to work around. The game doesn’t really understand transfers so bases whether they accept the deal on player value alone. This means you can trade two 71 rated 18 year old players for a much older, higher rated player from an AI team. For example if you all play as English teams Man City could trade Foden and B.Silva plus 3/4m for Messi. Unless you’re playing for 4/5 years which is roughly 15/20 seasons (newsflash you won’t play for anywhere near that) then there’s no downside to having a small squad of older players because the age in real time, but a season takes less than a month. As soon as one player figures this out (took less than a day on our game) it becomes all anyone will do. Why spend 2 days trying to negotiate swapping an 84 rated defender for an 84 rated striker when you can swap two reserves for a 90 rated player? So your second option is making everyone elite teams and disable transfers with AI clubs. However with 30 of you playing the ‘elite’ clubs will run out and you’ll be left with some people playing as Barca and some stuck with West Ham. With no AI trading and players improving so slowly it becomes very difficult for the lower rated people to become better than the top teams, meaning apart from the 1/2 weaker teams the AI takes a shining too which will be practically unbeatable there’s never going to be much change. Which means your final option is turning off AI transfers and giving everyone teams on an equal rating, so midtable Prem sides as well as the Europa chasing sides from Italy, France, Germany & Spain, as well as the likes of Ajax and Porto. This means you have a pretty equal starting point and encourages transfers but it also means the best players in the game are unattainable. Nobody will ever be able to work their way up to Messi, Ronaldo or Suárez because you can’t trade with AI teams. You’re welcome to go for it, and if you create a league and need one more player I might even jump in, but the problem is the game normally gives you two weeks of friendlies before the season starts and going on experience a solid 30-50% will get bored of it before the season starts; and as soon as a few people drop out there’s less teams to trade with and you lose the banter of playing/beating someone and the vicious cycle starts before you’ve even really started
There’s a 20 page thread somewhere of everything that happened, it taking me f*cking ages to get everyone to pick a team etc, first few days the thread is so active and then it just dies a death over the space of about 4/5 days at the end
Yeah, I remember because they lost pretty much every game and their fans started punching opposition players.
