Thought it might be interesting to find out what teams you guys follow in foreign leagues, if at all? Or even if you just have a couple you keep an eye on? And what are the reasons for following them?
Serie A - Inter Milan Bundesliga - Hertha Berlin Ligue 1 - Rennes La Liga - Atletico Madrid SPL - Rangers
Can't stand the bigger sides that everybody tags onto like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, Juventus, PSG etc... the less said about Celtic, the better...
Haha, I agree, not that bothered by celtic but certainly the big sides in Europe I'm not keen on, especially Juve. I don't mind Bayern to be honest as they do still hold a degree of being the unpopular choice when facing Madrid and the likes. Personally I can't stand Dortmund.
No wonder when you, as you said in your introduction thread, have a soft spot for Schalke . My wife wouldn't like you, she's born in Dortmund and BVB "through and through" as she was born into a BVB mad family. But don't worry, she can't stand HSV either. Her only visits to the Volkspark with me are when BVB plays against HSV. Didn't happen for quite a while now (due to ....you know why ). Anyway, I don't support foreign clubs tbh because support means for me watching them regularly. But I like Liverpool since Kevin Keegan's years and when he later came to HSV in 1977 I was over the moon (was a 14 year old boy back then) and nowadays because of Jürgen Klopp, of course. I really like this guy since his days at Mainz 05. And I also have a soft spot for Wolverhampton Wanderers due to my cousin who lives in Wolverhampton since the early 80's when she moved to the UK with her husband who was a soldier in the british army stationed in Germany. In the past I visited them from time to time and always went with her man to Molineux then. But as I said I wouldn't call me a supporter of both clubs, only a "guy who likes them"
I agree! I think I'm the same until I've been to a game I wouldn't say I'm a fan, I follow Dutch football generally quite closely I have a friend who lives in Utrecht so we talk football quite a bit. For me the reason I always had a soft spot for Schalke was because I disliked Dortmund haha, I think I wouldn't really mind Dortmund if it wasn't for a lot of my friends pretending to like them when they went through that little period of being 'the' cool team in Europe
Always had a softspot for Roma. Probably because Totti might be my favourite ever player and because Roma were a lot like Liverpool, good side that often just fell a little bit short. I think they've finished 2nd about 9 times in the last 20 years, I'd like to see them win the title again sometime.
I've always quite liked Roma too, Totti was such a classy player. It would be nice to see anyone win the title besides Juve
Sampdoria my 1st ever Subbuteo team back in the early 70's. Saint Etienne , Broussia Moenchengladbach & Stenhousemuir all have great names Freesports channel 422 on sky are showing Live J-League football in what looks like a full stadium of fans Yokohama v Kobe , lucky b*stards.
I don’t follow any other clubs but I do like following Serie A in general. I’ve always had pretty good access to Italian matches and have had access to all matches now for the last couple years. I used to like Inter when Mourinho was there but can’t say I follow any club as I generally watch the Milan clubs, Napoli, the Rome clubs, etc just to see if anyone will knock odd Juve. I’ll watch Fiorentina as well when I get the chance as it is my wife’s and I favorite city to visit so would be nice to see them have some success. I do have full access to Bundesliga now but haven’t really dove in much
Similar to me regards Serie A, I drift in and out, would recommend getting into the bundesliga, some great talents on show
I think he knows that, his favourite club Chelsea bought some talented Bundesliga players with Pulisic, Werner and Havertz. And I nearly said that your "don't like" club Dortmund is recommended to watch for him because of talented English players Sancho and Bellingham but I see that David is from USA. So maybe Giovanni Reyna is of interest for him. He just made 3 assists in Dortmunds 4-0 win at the weekend against Freiburg. Youngest player in the Bundesliga to do this with 17 years (former record holder was Kai Havertz with 3 assists at the age of 18)
I support Sporting having been born and raised in Portugal. Held season tickets when I lived there and watch us play every week on TV/online since I moved to England permanently (which hasn’t been easy the last decade as we are a basket case of a club) The last 18 months I’ve found myself watching Atalanta games in Serie A but that’s more to them being goal fests Would like to see them beat Juve to the title this year And this is definitely a strange one but I like to check up on how Strasbourg are doing over in France. For the sole reason that I watched some of their games back in the early to mid 2000s and had a weird appreciation for Mamadou Niang upfront before he joined Marseille
I lived in Rotterdam for a while so have a soft spot for Feyernoord, and living in Chiang Mai for five years I've been avidly following JL Chiang Mai Utd, though the standard of football there isn't great and because they play during the rainy season the waterlogged pitches don't help.
Tampines Rovers in Singapore. Quite a few other European teams I like but don’t go out of my way to watch their games. Teams like Villarreal, Rennes, Barca, Livorno all have good relations with us and some others too.
I love Serie A and don't really have any great allegiances. I like Genoa, as they're the one team I've actually seen live, after their terrific team slaughtered Vale in the Anglo-Italian Cup final (R.I.P.). One of those few times where you just admire the opposition. Hopefully won't be another last-day escape this season, and shouldn't be with the squad they have, but already had a 6-0 trouncing by Napoli after a feckless display. Probably seen more of Roma than any other club over the last couple of years, and there is something about that club that draws you in. So much talent and promise, but always drama, and one of those clubs that people will say is always one or two games away from a crisis.
