Will John Kerry ever have another go for the Presidency?

I have a soft spot for him, since Hunter S Thompson liked him. Seen he is going to be involved with climate change in this administration.

Hope not. Representative of the old guard.

Biden picking a bunch of Obama alums, which, given how they were able to stabilize the country after Bush's recession and wars, is probably just what we need.

Isn't he really old already, similar age to Biden? He seems to have been around forever . . . :hmmm

Would be around 80/81 in 8 years time. So unless Biden drops out half way and he runs then seems very unlikely, yeah.

After Obama how has US politics ended up being dominated by all these septuagenarians? Trump, Biden, Sanders, even the relatively youthful Harris is older than Obama was when took office.

(Yes, I did have to look up how to spell septuagenarians).

Obama is very much an exception to many rules of politics, that's for sure. Whether it's his name, race, or home state, it really came out of nowhere, and his grassroots organizing is the best we've ever seen.

The rest of Washington has pretty much been the same names since Biden was a young congressman, and the Democrats have proven to do anything in their power to keep that control over the party, even if it means losing everything else to the Republicans, who have been more open to evolving their party.

It can't just be me who thinks that Alejandro Mayorkas looks a little bit too much like Gianni Infantino. Has FIFA infiltrated American politics?

So far an even less imaginative cabinet than most were predicting. Obama alumni, moderate Democrats and a bunch of lobbyists and other insiders forming up for the last hurrah of neoliberalism before either the hard left or hard right pull the plug on its life support in 2024. On the upside this is going to be a very low drama, uncontroversial administration that can probably do a lot of tinkering around behind the scenes but will achieve little or nothing big and imaginative. At the least the corporate media will provide a bit of amusement for the next four years trying to be the sticky tape that holds the incoming return to the status quo together with interesting mental gymnastics while the grassroots on both sides try to finish it off for good.

  16. sounds good to me.

i'm not one for fixing the world's problems.

let it burn, let social injustice reign. As long as nobody increases taxes ;)

He doesn't have to be, the most important thing is he's not Trump.

That's an incredibly low standard to hold a president to. Trump's history, its time to move on from this excuse. Its the presidency after all, hardly some make work job.

You wondered earlier how septuagenarians dominate US politics - This attitude is the exact reason why. Because we vote these people in despite having proven they won't actually do anything. Any younger leader who wants to shake things up meanwhile is marginalized by a compliant and obsequious press.

It is extremely frustrating that Biden's opted for Kerry for that special presidential envoy role when he could have blooded in the younger Democrats via that role. But no, he'll just get in his old chums because why wouldn't he, when folks are willing to make excuses for him and everything he does because Trump...:rolleyes
