The Challenge Draft (1994 - 2014) Your aim as a manager is to build a squad of 18 players who played between 1994 to 2014, with a squad budget of £1,000m! You will be signing players by either bidding or drafting them each round (1 international appearance = £1m). However, each round, the players you choose must satisfy the set category. Are you ready for the challenge?
RULES Squad Budget In this draft game I am being very generous with the Squad Budget - each manager will be given £1,000m to construct their 18-man squad. Transfermarkt and its player valuations have been thrown into the bin this time. How will the players be priced then? A player's value will be based on how many International appearances he has played. For example, Emile Heskey has played for England 62 times - Heskey is valued at £62m. All players with no International caps are valued at ZERO (you may be able to find a few hidden gems). You must sign two goalkeepers - the rest is up to you. I would recommend a balanced Starting XI + (1 GK + 2 DEF + 2 MID + 2 ATT). 8 categories There will be 8 categories which will dictate which players are available each round. For each category we will have a BID round and a DRAFT round. No one will know the categories until I post them in the thread. This is how the draft will work: Round 1: Category A: BID (2 players) Round 2: Category A: DRAFT Round 3: Category B: BID (1 player) Round 4: Category B: DRAFT Round 5: Category C: BID (1 player) Round 6: Category C: DRAFT Round 7: Category D: BID (1 player) Round 8: Category D: DRAFT Round 9: Category E: BID (2 players) Round 10: Category E: DRAFT Round 11: Category F: BID (1 player) Round 12: Category F: DRAFT Round 13: Category G: BID (1 players) Round 14: Category G: DRAFT Round 15: Category H: BID (1 player) Round 16: Category H: DRAFT Bidding This is how each BID round works: Each manager will Private Message me with a bid for a player who satisfies the set category for the round. Example: Category A: choose a player who has won the FA Cup For example: Jamie Carragher £75m The minimum amount you can bid for a player is based on their number of International appearances (1 cap = £1m). The manager with the highest bid signs the player. If two or more managers make an equal bid for a player, those same managers will make one final re-bid. If there is still no 'highest bid', the player will be unsigned and remain available for the future rounds. WARNING: For any managers who fail to sign a player in a bid round, they will have to sign ANY player with 10 INTERNATIONAL CAPS OR LESS (you sign these players with your pick in the following DRAFT round). Drafting This is how the DRAFT round works: The draft order will be based on the amount you bid on the previous round. The manager with the smallest bid amount will draft first. If two or more managers bid the same amount, the draft order will be based on (i) the manager with the largest remaining budget drafts first, (ii) the manager with the most players drafts first, (iii) the name of the manager, A-Z (excluding numbers and symbols). Therefore: Round 3: BID Round 4: DRAFT (draft order based on Round 3's bid amounts) Round 7: BID Round 8: DRAFT (draft order based on Round 7's bid amounts) Each manager will then pick ONE PLAYER that satisfies the round's category. His value will be based on the number of International appearances he has won (1 cap = £1m). After you make your pick, please Private Message the following manager in the Draft Order. There is a Draft Deadline Window of 8 hours. If you miss the deadline the next manager in the draft order can continue. If you think you will be away for longer than 8 hours please send a shortlist to another manager or myself. Player Evaluation We will be drafting footballers who played between 1994 and 2014 (seasons 1993-94 to 2013-14). When we evaluate our players it will be based on their performances from 1994-2014 too, looking at their 3 season peak. However, all categories may apply to years before 1994. Team Evaluation The evaluation of the teams will work in two stages. After every manager has posted his tactics and team profile: Firstly, we will rank eachothers teams under the usual categories (best team, defence, midfield, attack, balance and bench) Secondly, we will then play a Knockout Tournament. Having a strong bench will play an even more important role in this draft. During the Group Stage, you will be forced to make 2 changes to your line-up for each game. Each time a team progresses, that team will be able to steal one player from an eliminated team. Thus, a team who reaches the final can potentially steal 4 players (2 from Group Stage, 1 from a Quarter-Finalist and 1 from a Semi-Finalist).
