Damn I thought the meeting was this evening was going to watch it on YouTube. Great news anyway! My only quibble is 'IF' we have a good period of PL establishment I'm not sure 35,000 will be enough tbh
Phase 2 is to level off the Bridgford stand which will add another 3k seats and take the capcity to 38k. This is depending on which league we are in etc. And would prove difficult once again due to the house situation behind the stand. A good 5 years away at least before we see this happen.
Just reading up on that, this part has taken years to get approved so 5 years is optimistic on phase 2! It is exciting though that we are going to get a new stand that is actually going to be modern
Incredible news - the City Ground is already a fantastic ground, so to upgrade the one rickety stand & have modern corporate & conferencing facilities is an enormous boost!
More great news for the club and this has been a long time coming. As @RedDogChris said it is a shame we couldn't eek out a bit more capacity on this upgrade but from what I can gather this was discussed with the council and apparently the plans with the additional upgrades were likely to be rejected. It makes sense to do it one stand at a time anyway so as not to have too much of a capacity reduction whilst work is going on - there's enough negativity around ticket sales at the moment as there is
As the second half of last season showed, demand is ridiculous when there is sniff of success (gates increased dramatically under Karanka too). Even 35,000 in the championship wouldn't be too far fetched for us
Not heard much on this since the approval - and not looking like it will be breaking ground at the end of the season as planned is it? They can't start work until the new boathouse has begun construction I believe, and that will get dragged out for a while. Can see this being another year or two until work begins unfortunately. Suppose the benefit of that would be if we cement our place in the Prem.
It will probably take a season or two to build as well won't it which will be a bummer if we establish ourselves as a pl club, even less tickets with sky high demand!
