An odd statement from them on being chucked out of the league, claiming they had enough players to play games etc... Seems they missed the issue of all the money they owed to various parties which led them to being suspended in the first place. Going on to say they will be playing next season whatever, well no, not if they don't actually pay off their debts. I see in a different press release a director said he "hoped" the debts would be clear by September, think that will be far too late for FAW to let the club into any division.
bought by an italian millionaire Domenico Serafino, an influx of foreign players, ex Barnsley player Hugo Colace becomes manager, they do well initially but the money dries out and an exodus of players happens. thankfully there is a phoenix club that has been set up a couple of years ago supporting the local community and homegrown players.
A couple of big clubs in North Wales have gone in the last few years, Rhyl went bust a couple of years ago didn’t they? Aren’t Bangor 1876 in the 4th tier now? I think they may have applied for a 3rd tier licence as well.
yes Bangor 1876 are slowly working their way back up the leagues, and have a few ex City stalwarts on their books. Rhyl also went bust and reformed, Cefn Druids have struggled on and off. There is a very fine line in the Welsh leagues for financial stability it seems. Qualify for Europe and you are set financially for the season, and that is the model TNS employed for such a long time until more recent seasons. At one point TNS could offer better financial packages to players than Wrexham could afford
European Football can be a mixed curse, Neath and Llanelli both collapsed a year after playing in Europe. The FAW do seem a bit tighter on handing out licenses for upper tier Football
