For those who watch them! I have just finished Ed Stafford - Marooned. He makes Bear Grylls look like a poncy school boy! I am now onto Gold Rush, pretty much followed this since day one. Its very much like a typical American documentary OTT and for the cameras but enjoyable nontheless. Anybody else watch/recommend anything?
I watch a few of this type, Man Woman Wild being one I prefer, he's Canadian ex special forces, she's his English wife, ex news reporter. She has no experience at all at survival. Im about 3 weeks into Naked & Afraid season 2. Its normal folk that like to think they're survival experts. One man, one woman, very naked get dropped off in various survival situations, with just a camera and one item of their choice. Yes we know the guys like to play Tarzan, hunter, protector etc, but the first season showed that the women often showed more mental strength.
Nature docs all day long. Fascinated by the animals that roam the Serengeti. Also love watching programmes on poisonous creatures like snakes and spiders.
Love documentaries, particularly science and nature ones. Unfortunately they're becoming less common on channels like Discovery and History in favour of shite "reality" shows like Swamp people, Storage wars, Amish mafia, etc. etc.
Yes! My kind of shows I'd recommend 'Gold Rush'. Two Americans who have hit on hard times go to Africa to mine for gold they've done it previously with a friend he passed away and they want to secure his childs future too. But it doesn't have a documentary feel. Ed Staffords show was good. Nothing like the crap that was on channel 4 just. For real survival watch Les Stroud look him up. He has a few series. He survives Ed Stafford style. Just him and he films himself. No crew, no set up scenes he's literally dropped off somewhere and left to survive.
Watched the new Cosmos series, a 13 episode documentry. Excellent, a must see for anyone interested in science and the workings of the Universe.
Just watched that Ed Stafford one, it was brilliant. I'l have a go at that Lee Stroud one if I can find some next time. Gold Rush is good if it's the one I'm thinking of, the first few series where set in NA?
I love to watch history documentaries and would happily watch them all night which is why i love BBC4.
These; Todd Hoffman - by far the worst boss in the world, ever! The best documentary series I have ever seen is The World at War - It is dated now, but for content its unrivalled.
On CBS there is a series called Life Behind Bars and gives you a peek of what goes on in some of America's toughest prisons. Just look at someone the wrong way and you will end up with a knife in your back.
I remember being allowed to stay up and watch that as a kid. It was on Yesterday on freeview last year and loved it all over again a quality programme even if it's 40 years old.
Excellent that. I've got the ESPN 30 for 30 series and some of the documentaries on that are brilliant. The story of Mandela and the 95 South African rugby team is another one. Cocaine Cowboys is excellent The World at War is a cracking series. Enjoyed the Andrew Marr history of Britain series on BBC. Portillo's railway journeys are really good if that passes for the genre Loads more.
Enjoying the cabbie abroad series at the moment, he was in the "toughest place to be a" series as well which was really good.
The Unknown Knowns This is a face to face interview with Donald Rumsfeld who was Defense Secretary during the Iraq war, but also had a long career in politics before that. I thought this was okay, but I didn't actually learn anything. I mean sure, you get some details and a few little ideas, but nothing truly monumental. Still - it's okay.
With the added benefit of Laurence Olivier's narration this has to be the most comprehensive, emotive and compelling history of the 2nd World War ever made, absolutely brilliant.
