Thread for the tournament from a Scottish perspective. Turkey v Italy to kick it off. . . Where we got a fantastic build of the game on the BBC as Gary Lineker and co discussed playing Kyle Walker in a back 3 for England, the usual from the usual. Looking forward to it though, hope it's a good tournament.
The Italians totally dominated a Turkey team many had tipped as dark horses last night. Played some great stuff and looked like they could be in the mix come the business end of the tournament.
Obviously it's different for the English but see being Scottish (or Welsh probably) i dont want to hear them slavering about England before every game with a token line thrown in about any other home nation involved, it happens every tournament. Considering it's the British Broadcasting Corporation i'd like to think they had a programme about all the home nation teams. Point is though last night was Turkey v Italy.
True guess it can be frustrating (like when it’s basically all top 6 chat on Sky when they are showing teams not in that bracket ) but think this time they have got more coverage on the other teams with reporters in the camp and pundits lined up particularly for the Wales/Scotland games .
They might have but we should be getting more about the tournament as a whole and the two teams in action at the time rather than England, like i said thats obviously not the case if you're English though. Anyway, was a decent start to the tournament last night. The Italians were impressive.
Yes I agree they should talk about the game they are showing in the main. They were very good - kept playing football and eventually broke Turkey down who seemed to play for a draw .
Very good game last night. I thought Barella and Spinazzola were outstanding. Turkey surprised me as I expected more from them but I think even they were taken back with how much this Italy side pressed them. Real 50/50 here with Wales and Switzerland, expect Wales to maybe just edge it as I think they possibly have more ways of changing it up during the game it things don't go to plan.
Expecting England to beat Croatia today and without much trouble tbh. I think England are weak in the Defensive Mid to CB positions and a good team can take advantage of that but that's not Croatia anymore I don't think.
Quite - we would potentially face Portugal, France or Portugal in the 2nd round if we top the group !
I think going forward England can match any team in the Euros except France , even the options from the bench like Sancho and Sterling is excellent, that's assuming Southgate goes Mount, Foden and Grealish behind Kane. I just don't think England have it in them yet to keep a good side out at the other end, watching the positions someone like Barella gets into for Italy would be a nightmare for England.
Defence is our worry but also despite having good attacking options never confident we can put it together . Keep hearing how we should stroll the group but football just doesn't work like that and teams aren't here just to make the numbers up.
