Thought i'd start a thread of it's own for this so it's easier for the mods to ban people when it gets out of hand (thinking of you @TAFKAP ) Honestly this game is IT, an evening game at Fratton against the inbred c*nts, a must win game (on the night) we haven't played each other at Fratton since 2011, we haven't won there since Moran's winner in the cup in 1984. I couldn't give a running f*ck about any other game this season, i couldn't give a running f*ck about staying in the premier league. All I want is a win there, a win at their godforsaken shithole full of inbred chavs. So i can watch them dismantle their own city in anger afterwards. F*ck the Skates, the scum are coming!
Nowt to do with us mate. Let em crack on with it. Although if it gets Ralph Whatshisface's squad to take their eye off the ball slightly for our fixture a few days earlier, then that works for us. It might also cool down the Hants Police action for our game. Because they usually treat it as if a war is about to break out down Above Bar Street, and in doing so cause more agro than they solve. A slightly less intrusive evening's drinking would be welcome. Would any Saints fans like to give us a bit of an history lesson regarding this rivalry. I did hear something about the dockers once before but can’t remember the full story.
Whilst it is a derby they have becomes so insignificant down there since their self imposed fall from grace that I have largely really given up caring about them. Most of the people I know who are Portsmouth fans keep largely quiet these days, not a huge amount to shout about. Them being so shit has kind of dampened the fun a little bit, even when we were in league 1 we were winning and doing stuff that created a little to shout about and a little banter, but they have been down in the lower leagues for what like 8 years now? Still will want to beat them of course, especially as it'll be fun to shup up that tatooed, hat wearing, bell ringing, plonker.
very similar to us and Luton. They have finally started piping up on social media given that we are only a division apart. Will always dislike them and want them to lose but won't lose sleep if they don't. I am grateful that we actually have proper rivals though and haven't had to manufacture something like another south coast club has done with a south London club - very queer relationship that.
The dock strike is made up shit from them, i have no idea where it came from but i'd assume probably their fanzine named after when they beat us in 1988. The funny thing is you can actually prove they scabbed strikes at ours on multiple occasions, in 1890 with the dock strike, in the 80's under the witch (which lost us the cross channel ferries) and more recently with the bin strikes. To be honest i don't think anyone really knows the roots to it, there's some documentary evidence of the two cities being in conflict as far back as the 1700's, and although the viciousness of the football didn't really get going until the late 60's (as we passed them on the way up) it's been ingrained in the two cities forever. Growing up you're not taught to hate Portsmouth football club, you're taught to hate Portsmouth the city and it's residents. From a personal perspective the two games that really cemented it for me were Knight's testimonial in the early 90's and the game in 2006 when they were chucking bricks at the front of the train to try and de-rail it.
I can’t ****ing wait for this. I’ve been begging for this ever since we came back up.
