    Perhaps so. But Italia ‘90 will live in the hearts forever of American fans (of the Beautiful Game) of a certain age. (No matter how much of a mess it might have been behind the scenes.)

    This was the first World Cup ever televised on USA television. Italia ‘90 was the introduction of World Football to Americans.

    (I won’t count the weekly Bundesliga game shown on public television in the late 1970’s on public television (our “PBS”) and billed as “Soccer from West Germany”.)
