That rumour wasn't really confirmed or denied, but it didn't materialise in January. I heard it was a different Italian club who wanted him. Celtic have watched him as well I think.
We have Ayling and Liam Cooper out of contract this summer, i assume both will get a bit of interest. Both are good solid pro's who will help a dressing room, it's just how far there legs have got left that the question mark.
Can I ask about Jaidon Anthony? Big player for us in the Championship, I still hope he might make the PL grade given a chance, but he seems to have been very in and out at Leeds?
Don’t know about you but I find it frustrating. Pretty sure our owners would try and throw a bit of money at it to try and get back up if they could (as would others to be fair).
It is. The counter argument is when they dont want to do it anymore and then want that money back. I am sure that there could be a way for owners to spend what they want, if they commit to it not being a loan vs the club or something like that.
Yeah, he's just never really got going for us. Doesn't help that we have 3 players (Summerville, Gnonto & James) who are all good at this level, so just hasn't had consistent minutes. Shame it hasn't worked as seems to have a great attitude, think we were just the wrong move for him.
Random story in the Italian press linking Marko Arnautovic with a return to Stoke. I can't see that happening, even at 35.
Would be absolutely brilliant. But even if he was up for it for nostalgia's sake or to do Walters a favour, surely there wouldn't be any way of doing it with FFP? Reported to be on 100k a week, just can't see any way of structuring that without either breaking FFP or putting all our eggs in one basket and fatally neglecting the many other areas of the team that need improving. You could put Haaland up front but there's no point when you have the likes of Rose and Wilmot in defence and Bonham in goal.
One of the best performances I’ve seen when he was playing for West Ham against us, couldn’t get near him, guessing he wasn’t like that every week?
He was inconsistent, particularly in his early time at the club. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes erratic and his finishing could be wild if he wasn't on his game. But from his second season onwards he was brilliant and got better and better as time went along. We were disappointed to lose him, West Ham were seen as a bit of a sideways step at the time. But he definitely got even better while he was there while we were sadly in a decline that had started in his final season and culminated in relegation the season after he left. He's at the stage if his career where you'd normally go to Saudi Arabia or the US for a retirement pay day but he's already done that early on by leaving West Ham for China and I don't think he particularly enjoyed it from what I've heard. And this is partly how this daft rumour has come about. He apparently wants to stay in Europe and play in a meaningful league, but he's on a big contract at Inter and few clubs who would be interested in him can afford to take over his contract even if it was subsidised. We're mentioned as one who might be able to, apparently. Which we probably could given that we have billionaire owners. But I'm not sure the original story has taken FFP into account or the fact that it's highly unlikely that he'd be interested in playing in The Championship when he clearly still has the ability to play in big European top divisions.
F**k FFP - just sign him He would tear this division apart even though he is 35 now. On a serious note we must be able to spend something? Not telling me we will have to shop in the bargain basement or just look at picking up frees and loans again?
I hope the people saying scrap spending restrictions are doing so tongue in cheek. You might as well pack up the sport. Just create an exclusive league for clubs who are owned by a state or have a multi-billionaire owner(s) and let the rest fester in a separate pyramid.
We have that now don’t we? For the record no I am not being tongue in cheek. We have billionaire owners who have worked for their money - why shouldn’t they be allowed to invest it in their club? I watched the latest Welcome to Wrexham last night. They were talking about their women’s team. They wanted to pay the women more money to make it easier so they didn’t have to work 2 jobs etc. which I am sure we will agree is right. They can’t due to limits as to what they can pay players. Rob McElhenny then said “Just another one of the really fun UK regulations in football that hold you back from doing some of the things you wanna do”. Amen to that Rob, amen to that.[/QUOTE]
Linked with Macaulay Langstaff, for what would be a seven figure fee. Definitely couldn't complain if that one came in, we're definitely in need of a goalscorer. Top scorers this season for us were Jamal Lowe and Jerry Yates with 9, and I wouldn't be surprised if neither were here next season. We have seven players returning to their parent clubs, and four players due to run out of contract next month on top of that so plenty of work for us to do this summer as things stand.
We've officially confirmed Weimann's contract isn't being renewed today, reckon you'll sign him permanently? Matty James released too, would be a good signing on a one year deal for a fair few clubs in this division I'd have thought. We've offered Williams a new deal, will be other clubs in this division in for him so depends on where he wants to go really.
So the entire league system should be dictated by who can attract the richest owners? Utter bollocks in my opinion. Women's football doesn't attract good crowds, therefore they earn a lot less. Nothing to do with regulations. It's basic economics.
