Just thought I would start a thread for all the speculation on transfer in's and out's rather than a new thread always being created. As the season comes to a close reports are emerging daily on who we are interested in and who may be off. Today from nufc.com Tuesday night saw Newcastle first team coach Colin Calderwood reportedly present at the meeting of two of his former clubs, Northampton and Swindon. It's claimed that the focus of his interest was Swindon's in-form striker Simon Cox (pictured)- who didn't disappoint, grabbing a hat trick in a 4-3 victory. 21 year-old Cox began his career as a youngster with hometown club Reading, making a handful of first team substitute appearances for the Royals before loan moves saw him join Brentford, Northampton and Swindon. Making his move to the County Ground permanent in January 2008, Cox has come to prominence this season with 27 goals, seven of which have come in his last three appearances. Cox was a team mate of United defender Ben Tozer at Swindon, while current toon striker Nile Ranger also had a brief period on trial at the club before joining in 2008.
No offence, but if your going for players like Cox, it looks like your already resigned to being relegated.
Simon Cox oh, how the mighty have fallen. Seriously though, what the hell. Even if you get relegated, you should still be able to keep hold of some players, and attract some other decent players from lower Premier League and top Championship, and possibly some decent foreigners. A 21-year old kid from Swindon wouldnt get you promoted again.
I heard somewhere (probably just rumours), that if you go down, we will go in for Gutierez because if you do get relegated we should be able to get him for around £6m.
The two United fans above have clearly never seen our Cox!! Last night against Northampton http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/Football/League1/VideoIndex/0,,12555,00.html His best goal of the season http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy0YuNuPrhw Another decent one against Fenerbache http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXlINN4UHTs&feature=related Trying to find some more highlights of our Cox
Ian Wright (if you can take him seriously) is a big fan. After the Walsall goal he called it one of the best goals he has ever seen, said it takes a special talent to pull that off and he's the most gifted striker Wrighty has seen in the last 10 years!!! Off the top certainly but no one says that sort of stuff about Matty Fryatt!
Oh dear...... I know he's in form but is this what we've become? My problem is the lack of ambition. Why are we even considering this when we should be focused on staying in the Premier League and then securing the services of a striker who is Premier League standard. Simon Cox may be that one day but he is not there yet.
I don't at this moment think that we would out-bid any club for a player. It's bargain basement trash from 2008. Maybe it's better though than trash getting paid £65k-£100k a week mind. I noted that Viduka has made 1 (ie less than 2) start for us this season. The likes of him are the main culprits that we're hoving around the relegation zone.
Cox looks a decent prospect, but if we did get relegated you couldn't expect him to fire us back up to the Prem single handedly. We need players who have experience. Get shot of Shola, he will always be a merely average player. Get shot of Viduka aswell, he is just rinsing the club of wages that could be payed to a player who will actually play a couple of games each season.
Post relegation meeting M.Ashley(gives J.Kinnear a ring): Now that Owen has left us on a free who have we got in our sights for a replacement. J.Kinnear(still in hospital): I reckon we could get M.King on the cheap, & i hear Bent from Tottenham's available on loan. M.Ashely: Okay what do you reckon Colin. C.Calderwood: Simon Cox is available for 250k. M.Ashley: That's more like it, what do you reckon Joe. J.Kinnear: beep beep beep beeeeeeeppp.
Yes I did as a matter of fact but can't remember much about it as I was a little tipsy last night sorry guys it was a little cheesy. That doesn't deter from the fact that you are getting relegated this season, farewell.
Nile extension! From nufc.com Newcastle confirmed on Wednesday that Nile Ranger had signed a new three and a half year contract at the club. The London-born striker who turned 18 last weekend has been rewarded for an encouraging first season in front of goal when he's scored 22 times at youth & reserve level. 2009 has also seen Ranger make his international debut for England U19s and win the "Wor Jackie" award from Sport Newcastle. -------------------------------------------- I am hearing a lot of good things about this lad. Might be worth giving him a chance against Spurs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sr8PAKRbQo aparently this lad will come but this is the first ive heard of it, dont even know where it came from
