Well it will be interesting to see how it pans out with Lowton because as proved with Norwich it seems Lambert has quite an eye for lower league talent, personally though I think we've got ourselves a good hungry right back that will hopefully spell the end of Alan Hutton's short Villa career.
Yaccine Brahimi supposedly set to sign for us on Monday. 22 year old attacking midfielder from Renne. Don't know too much about him, but lots of signings early on is promising.
Also hearing links with Tongo Doumbia (also plays for Rennes). Whether either of these links are true I don't know. Most of the talk of Brahimi was around him signing today, although Matt Kendrick denies it.
Ron Vlaar was seen with his agent today being given a tour around Villa Park by Paul Lambert (apparently this is a confirmed sighting too).
Not ready for the Premier League in my opinion. Whilst he was our stand out player of the season he was part of one of the worst defences I have ever seen as a Ipswich fan, he is pretty good going forward and can put in a very good cross he still has a lot to learn defensively. A very promising player if you do sign him though. I would be gutted to lose him as we have been searching for a decent left back for about 8 years.
Vlaar set to sign for Villa The Netherlands international met Villa boss Paul Lambert almost a fortnight ago, but stated earlier this week any transfer was off after the Midlands club failed to follow up their interest. However, talks were resurrected and Vlaar has now agreed a three-year contract after Feyenoord accepted an offer in the region of €4million (£3.1m). Vlaar has discussed the recent situation with Villa and admits it will be a wrench to leave Feyenoord after helping the club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Strange feeling "It's a strange feeling to leave Feyenoord but it was a dream for me to move on to the Premier League," Vlaar told Feyenoord's official website. "Today we started talks again and some points have been spoken about. It was a tough conversation, Aston Villa made their apologies for their behaviour during the previous period. "I can imagine the fans aren't that happy with me at the moment, but I hope they grant me this transfer to the Premier League. "It will be tough for me to leave Feyenoord because my heart is with the club. I have experienced a lot at the club, ups and downs. "The absolute highlight for me was last season, when we ended up as second in the league with Feyenoord and I was part of the Dutch squad for the European Championship." Feyenoord's technical director Martin van Geel had previously accused Villa of being 'unfair' towards Vlaar and would have preferred the deal to have been done sooner given the club face Dynamo Kiev in a Champions League qualifier next week. Van Geel said: "Ron was the flagship of our club. He was the captain and a real leader who had a fantastic season. His experience and leadership will be a miss for Feyenoord. "The behaviour of Aston Villa has recently caused much unrest. Additionally, the timing in view of our upcoming game is not favourable. From that point of view we would have preferred that this transfer had come around a week earlier."
Pending a medical though which hopefully will pass by with no complications, avfc could you see Vlaar being made captain this season ?
And for a reported fee of £2.5M we get rid of pisshead Collins, and for £3.2M we buy his replacement, a euro 2012/Champions League/captain of Feyenoord Ron Vlaar, I'm beginning to think Paul Lambert is some kind of genius....
Maybe Lerner is going to provide some serious funds for the squad now he's sold the Browns for $1 billion?
I don't think Lerner will ever fund Villa like he did under MON, those days are long gone but it would be nice if there could be a few extra ££££ available now, last season was horrible and whilst I am very confident this season will be much better we are still painfully thin as a squad on quality and quantity. Well it seems as if we have had a £4M bid for Genk striker Christian Benteke turned down according to SSN who also said we've bid or Charlton midfielder Dale Stephens (never heard of him), also hearing reports that Benteke has gone on strike to try and force a move as this is the second bid they've turned down, whilst that makes it seem he wants to join Villa it worries me when players do things to force a move, we still need a left back and some wingers so it will be an exciting few days for the Villa fans......UTV SOTC
