I'm in two minds really. I'd love us to go up but I think with Martin we'll get destroyed every week and be relegated again. I'm also really enjoying this season as well. Going into every game knowing you have a chance to win is nice but also you can lose to anyone. Mad league this year.
Sounds a mad concept that mate. Almost like pretty much every game of professional football that’s ever been played.
Can tell you've never seen City in the premier league mush, there's plenty of games you know you've not got a hope in hell of getting anything out of at the start of the season I don't want friends and family to lose there jobs - which will definitely happen if we don't go up - but the idea of watching us get smashed by money clubs every other week and struggle to stay up because we're too open sounds horrendous to me. I mean it probably won't shock anyone that I hate the premier league with a passion, it's rigged to money, full of plastic ****s from nowhere near the cities "their" clubs are from, annoying overseas "fans", a media that talk shit and only care about the rich clubs. The away games are dull and played out at corporate soulless bowls, and once you're up you're pretty much just killing time before you go down again. The only positives are if you do well you get a european trip, and you have a better shot at the cups (though probably won't win them because the money clubs have them sewn up too). So yeah i'd honestly not be bothered if we didn't go up, as long as the club was financially stable.
Yeah it’s the European possibility that really entices me. That trip to Milan was special. The saints end was bouncing the whole game and just the walk up to the stadium was impressive. Everything else you’re correct on though. We’d need massive investment to stay up and would be getting dicked all over the place with the current tactics up there. We did well last time though so there’s always that hope.
I did all of the European trips and Be'er Sheeva was probably my favourite. Proper mad trip, flying into Tel Aviv and then going 20km from the West Bank to a ground in the middle of a f*cking desert Saying that it's probably a good thing we didn't go much further in Europe as i'd have been skint and single if we had Saying that the greed league isn't really like it was when we went up last time, the top six is just a list of bank accounts now and even down to 8th is a struggle for anyone to break unless they get exceptionally lucky (and even then they'll get torn apart by the vultures if they do do well). I genuinely think that for every team outside the top six now they're all just counting down time till they inevitably get relegated, and until the rich clubs f*ck off and take their money to a super league the english top flight is basically pointless.
I'm somewhat jaded with the money league but I'd also say that the most miserable seasons here have been in the Championship. Being shit in the Premier League is one thing but our decline under Peter Grant and Glen Roeder was something else. I'd rather we were in the Premier League but as a spectacle I'd rather watch the Championship. There's certainly not much soul in the Premier League.
We've beaten both Man City and Man Utd (at OT) in the Premier League. Beat City in our first home game of 13/14 season - City finished Champions and we finished bottom!
I've seen us win at virtually every top flight ground, the exception being Newcastle where for some reason we always get smashed, but those wins were/are definitely getting rarer
I had to pick two of them and Be'er Sheeva seemed like a proper chore for f*ck all so I sacked that one off straight away. Had a few mates go to it and they said it was f*cking brilliant. Gutted I couldn't leave out Milan though. Remember watching the draw on the phone to my mate saying I pray we draw Inter. I was buzzing and seeing little old saints play at a ground as iconic as the San Siro was very special. I didn't realise just how high up that stadium was from the outside. The walk up to it was intimidating. Great night out as well. Loved it.
I don't need to have seen my team do it, but regardless I've seen them go toe to toe with the best team in PL history (for my money) over 180 minutes, and beat several PL teams in the cup where we'd have been given "no chance", so there's always a chance. Didn't you lot have a half decent record even last season too against the bigger sides? Remember you getting a point at Arsenal, beating Chelsea etc.
record against Chelsea isn't too bad to be fair but we haven't won away at Arsenal in the league since 1987 Be'er Sheeva was honestly incredible, plus it's hands down the loudest ground i've ever been too. All parts of the ground going at it and making a proper f*cking racket. Definitely the most "why the f*ck did you do that" away i've ever done, think I was out of the UK for a total of 72 hours and about 10 hours of that was flying
We've done well against Chelsea over the years yeah but you can't compare a championship season where you have one of the most expensive squads to being in the top flight. Yeah, statistically there's always a chance but a lot of games up there are a ****ing whitewash. Quite often their bench would be worth more than our first 11 and we spent a fair bit of money as well. The point I was making was it's nice going into every game optimistic. Any game against the big clubs up there and you know you're most likely going to lose, so the mentality is a free hit and anything out of the game is a bonus lol.
Birmingham away tonight More of the same please, but they’re hovering above the bottom 3 and need to win. @Delilah could you put 12th in the title, didn’t see the point in making a new thread
Feels like we have a horrific record against Boro, desperately need that to change tonight. We were absolutely horrendous against Millwall at the weekend, the other results let us off the hook a little bit, Venus needs to get a reaction and a positive result against a good Boro side… …I won’t hold my breath
Blues were awful tonight, almost all their shots and clearances ended up in the stands. They need someone to pull themselves together, their centre half(wasn’t he captain once?) went off early. Only problem for us is we’re at home on Saturday…
Wait until Brizzle send shockwaves around the footballing world and finally make it to the "promised land" - it is most definitely not much pretty much every game then
