Just read a report that Damien Duff is too expensive for you to consider http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/engla...nager-owen-coyle-laughs-off-link-to-newcastle So the question is, are you looking at improving the squad, or just hang on in there for a season before taking any bigger steps high earning players? Hope you guys cope in the Premiership whatever.
We will spend there is no doubt about that, but it won’t be huge amounts. Our transfer record is about 1.2 million and I can’t see us going much higher than that on any one player. Not only would Duff need a big transfer fee but I imagine he’s on quite a lot of money and he would smash our wage bill. I reckon we’ll be looking at some loan signings (Coyle recently said he’s been talking to Sir Alex a lot recently and will be doing so again when he’s back off holiday about a few things – Rooney please! ), free transfers, and signings from abroad and lower leagues.
Duff wouldn't be a high transfer fee mind. And then there's our striker/midfield general Alan Smith - £1m should nab him. Smith would need a tough tackling midfield assistant - bring forward Joey Barton -£1m would get you him. When Joey's not suspended, on the treatment table, or in jail, he can show real battling spirit on the pitch. Please take them.
I hear C.Ronaldo has shunned Real madrid in favour of a move to Turf Moor....but apparently, we said 'Nah, leave it mate, you're sh*t'.... Word on the street, that's all
Brendon Flood said we'll be looking buying young British players overall so we'll see if they stick to the plan.
I can see us paying half decent money for some younger UK players, with maybe the odd older player on a free transfer to add experience at this level aka Lars Jacobsen etc etc. I would think we will bring in 5-6 players, maybe 2-3 for the first 11 and the others to strengthen squad numbers.
I think Burnley will take the general 'newly promoted team' approach, which is spending low and wisely. It's a very hard thing to do and is a thin line between failure and success. I'd like to see Burnley make a challenge atleast.
