I'm considering getting the back 3 windows of my car tinted. I looked into it and noticed you could either have it sprayed or use material stuck onto the glass. Has anyone ever had this done? Does it affect my insurance? Would especially like to hear if anyone has had any negative experiences from it...
Isn't there laws on how dark it can be on any of the windows . I see some chavs up and down and you cant see a thing through the window
The back 3 windows can be limo black. The front sides have a limit. You can get them laser tinted. Best way.
What is the big drama over getting them tinted , do you think it looks cool or something or are you just an ugly bastard and don't want nobody seeing you or you that ashamed of your car you don't want people to see you driving it?
I love the tint on the rear 3 of my car. Keeps the sun out of the kids faces and gives you a bit of privacy.
Just in general, you sure? I just think it looks good, but I want to know if it will cause an issue with my insurance and whether people who have had it done have later experienced problems with it...
yeah if YOU meaning anybody replying to the post. if it had been directed at YOU i would of quoted YOU some insurances aren't keen i know that certain because i bought a van and they had records from previous owner who had windows tinted mainly to hide his work tools and they said id have to pay extra to unless i removed it
It won't change your insurance. You won't even need to tell them about it. The only problems I've seen are the sticky ones. After a few years they tend to bubble and peal. Or if you scratch the window it puts a crease or hole in it although it is the cheapest way. My tints are factory standard and are laser tinted. By far the best way.
Yes it might, and yes you do. I'm sure different insurers have different rules but: http://www.directline.com/beta/car-insurance/buyers-guides/modifications All non-factory modifications should be notified to your insurer. If someone breaks a window in the car your insurer won't pay for tinted glass, and they also want to know if you have made changes that might make the vehicle more of a target for thieves/vandals. In a nutshell it means when filling in the insurance application you should answer 'yes' to the question 'Has the vehicle been modified'. The rules for front windscreen tinting is that 75% of light must be able to get through and front side windows 70%. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...ent_data/file/245217/tinted-windows-guide.pdf
As has been said, you can have the back 3 as dark as you want, but I believe the maximum darkness for the drivers and passenger side windows is 70%. So, instead of having that contrast of 3 dark windows and 2 normal ones (which looks a bit poo), I'd go for 5 windows each tinted at the same legal 70% which would look much better and really smart IMO. Shane recommended getting them laser treated but that sounds really expensive to me, be cheaper to buy some decent tinting film and either do it yourself or get someone to do it for you if you don't trust yourself. If there are no gaps or bubbles then it's been fitted correctly. As for insurance, my car has been fitted with tinting film and my insurance company only asked me about things like aftermarket performance parts, aftermarket wheels, seats, bobdykits etc, they never mentioned anything about tinted windows
