Bayern ladies take on PSG tomorrow in the CL's earlier evening encounter (18:45 CET / 05:45 PM GMT) before Real Madrid host favourites Barcelona in the later game (21:00 CET / 8 PM GMT). It'll be a historic moment for Bayern as their first ever home game at the mighty Allianz Arena. Until now, they played at a tiny training stadium at the the new Bayern Campus in Freimann. I'm looking forward to this and hope they play as well as they did when they beat Olympique Lyon in group stage.

On Wednesday, dark horses, Juventus, play co-favourites Olympique Lyon in the early game, while Arsenal host Wolfsburg in the later game.

1:2 loss at home to PSG, but it was a fairly even game. Two insufficiently defended crosses basically put us 2:0 down, although Bayern came close on a few occasions. The final ball by Bayern within attacking moves was usually well defended by PSG, although we hit the woodwork on an occasion or two. Bayern still have a chance to get an away victory in Paris.

In the later game, Real Madrid eventually lost 1:3 at home to Barcelona, despite starting the game very well. Esther Gonzalez especially was brilliant up front for Real, and they all did well until a ridiculous penalty for Barca brought the Catalans back into contention. Barcelona found their way in and dominated the rest of the game. It looks tough for Real to eliminate a two goal deficit in Barcelona against probably the best women's team in the world.

Internationally there needs to be massive changes in the Women's game with England on a + 68 goal difference it's a joke tbh .

They should adopt a nations league kind of format where when a team becomes competitive they get to play against better teams or teams of a similar standard as atm I can't see how the likes of Latvia shipping goals willy nilly aid anyone .

Disagree. These minor nations are only going to improve by playing better quality opposition, I don't see them getting any better by only playing teams as bad as they are?

It'll just take time. In the 50s you used to get men's teams from the smaller nations getting thrashed 10-0 and more, now it's extremely rare and those teams are able to compete.

Culture and finances are going to take time to change too. There are still many barriers for female players in so many countries which prevents mass participation and consequently the depth of talent just isn't there. Women's football also struggles badly to generate revenue outside of it's core nations like USA, Japan, the UK and Germany. If popularity and consequently investment improves then it'll improve standards too. In so many countries there's no real way to earn a living in women's football and that has a big impact on standards.

They've come out and supported him. He's right. Women's and men's brains work differently and one of the ways is women feel the extremes of emotions more and for longer than men.

WSL has very dominant teams at the top, the rest miles behind them.

Torverhältnis 159:11! Barça-Frauen spielen perfekte Saison

Just read the above article on kicker.de.

Women's team of FC Barcelona won again the Spanish Championship. With a perfect season:

30 Wins in 30 Matches. GD of 159:11, that's more than 5 goals per game on average. :eeek

Last season they won "only" 33 of (then) 34 matches. :D

I know how frustrating it must be to have a Behemoth in your league but that's even beyond frustrating for the other teams. 2nd placed team, Real Sociedad, was 24 points behind them.

btw: In 4 days they're playing again in the Women's Champions League Final in Turin against (former) Serial Winners Olympique Lyon (won it 5-times in a row from 2016-2020, until last season when they lost against this FC Barcelona).

Lyon will certainly be watching videos of Barcelona's single loss of the entire season thus far, namely the 2:0 defeat in Wolfsburg in the 2nd leg of the semis. Barca got away with it, because they hammered Wolfsburg 5:1 at home, in front of a world record attendance for any female sporting event (ca. 92,000).

Exactly! Forgot to mention it, that Wolfsburg was the only team that could beat Barca this season so far.

Impressive stats. Tomorrow is the Champions League final for them. I'll watch it until the German Cup Final Freiburg vs Leipzig starts!

Yeah, the record crowd, way more than the Men's team had in the Europa League quarter final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

    **********************
edit: Barcelona lost the Women's Champions League final against Olympique Lyon with 1-3. So the French took revenge for last years final lost (and for losing their consecutive win streak of it) and regained their place as the top Women's Football team (at least in Europe).

Olympique Lyon were outstanding in that final against Barcelona to win 3:1. What a victory!

We have just appointed Willie Kirk as Director of Football, Women and Girls.

That's a really impressive appointment for the club IMO he's very respected in the women's game

England manager Sarina Wiegman has been named Uefa women's Coach of the Year 2021-22 after leading the Lionesses to a historic victory at the Euros.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema won the men's Player of the Year award following a La Liga and Champions League double last season.

His manager Carlo Ancelotti was named as the men's Coach of the Year.

Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas claimed the women's Player of the Year award for a consecutive year.

Not sure what League Posh Ladies are in but an impressive 2,338 fans have turned out at London Road in the 1st League match of the season in a 4-1 win against Lincoln Ladies , well done .

I've been trying to work it out, it's not particularly clear but looks to be the 4th tier of women's football.

Have to say I was expecting a pretty low turnout. Tickets were only £4 in fairness but 2,300 odd was much higher than I expected for such a low standard on a Wednesday night.

First half was fairly even. Lincoln had the better of it but Posh improved as the half went on and scored just before the break.

Second half Posh dominated and thoroughly deserved the win. Had one disallowed for offside too. Typically I missed the third as I popped to the toilet

Standard at that level is pretty rubbish it has to be said. I've been quick to defend the standard at the top level but it's a massive drop to the level posh and Lincoln are at.

Nevertheless a good night for Posh and I'm sure those that have never been to a game before would have enjoyed it.

Wales beat Greece 1-0 to set up a nervy last game on Tuesday. Just need to avoid defeat to go into the playoffs.

Let's hope they are not like the men used to be and fail in the final group game.
