A bit ott, presumably you watch the PL and CL and there are owners just as disreputable as Qatar represented. Although I undoubtedly agree with your sentiments, money rules the game and very few clubs these days can brag about having good owners, in fact there as rare as rocking horse s**t !.
I'm not sure whether I can get excited about it, for me World Cups are about the summer and having one in the middle of the season is just downright odd.

They will be a top seed as well!

You'd love to be in their group...

As I said in another thread, summer international tournaments keep sites like FF going, not to mention it gives everyone some footy to watch where otherwise there'd be none.

  5. I support Man Utd, not the PL. I only watch Man Utd or the odd other game with mates.I'm as outspoken as they come on scumbags owners.

I didn't say otherwise, but presumably you watch Man U v Man C or PSG, if so it smacks of double standards.

It shouldn't have been given to them but it's done now and they can't change it. I still think it should always be a summer tournament and should be given to a country who treat their citizens well and where the temperature isn't ridiculously high. The only good thing is it's a small country which will help with travel for teams and fans. Also we have to wait four and a half years instead of four now

  8. Look, mate, it's near impossible to stay squeaky clean in a late stage capitalistic world. I watch my own club play anyone. I wouldn't watch United play in a tournament if it was as corrupt and had such little regard for human rights as the Qatar World Cup.

Yeah that’s the weird part for me.

It’s a shit country full of Arabs, drinking is pretty much illegal, and with drinking comes atmosphere, it forces a break in the Premier League, it’ll be cold and dark during games.

It just won’t feel like a World Cup at all.

It's sad that after the greatest World Cup in a generation the next one will automatically be the worst one ever.

A country with absolutely no footballing history or affinity for the game. A climate so unsuitable it has to be held in the middle of winter and thus throwing most football leagues into chaos. The bad taste in the mouth from the blatant bribery and corruption that led to the awarding of the tournament. The human rights violations, slavery and poor health and safety in the construction of the white elephant stadiums.

Even if the football on the pitch ends up being good I'll struggle to look past all those negatives.

I don’t agree with Qatar hosting, but some of the ignorant comments here are harsh.

I was in Doha for the opening game of the Asian Cup that they hosted. There were 30,000 and the atmosphere was good. They love football.

There will be fan parks to drink at. Just like Russia, don’t tarnish the general public with the same brush as the corrupt officials.

I get what you mean about the ordinary people who I'm sure are perfectly fine. It doesn't change the fact though that it's a completely unsuitable country. The climate is the biggest issue after the obvious corruption issue. Surely the very first requirement of a hosting country is that they have a climate suitable for hosting a football tournament in the months of June and July? Qatar fails this most basic test and should have been eliminated at the first possible opportunity. From a practicality point of view it's as stupid as hosting the World Cup in Antarctica and saying they could install heating in the stadiums.

Also as others have said a winter World Cup just doesn't feel right. The World Cup is about long summer evenings, BBQs etc. Cold, dark winter nights are for watching your club team it won't feel right for a World Cup.

Just because that’s what you want from a WC, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t move the dates just once. It will give people in the Southern Hemisphere the experience we have been used to.

What about the other leagues that usually run over the summer (US, Scandinavia etc)? It makes a change for those to have a WC at the end of their seasons.

Regardless, due to obvious corruption, Qatar should not have been awarded the tournament.

Unless something dramatic happens with FIFA we have to accept that all bids are corrupt to some degree. As Russia showed, they can get away with it pretty easily and with no blowback. At the end of the day as long as the football happens most fans don’t really care enough to force change. Maybe this will improve under Infantino rather than Blatter but I doubt it very much.

The thing about Qatar for me is that they’re not a football or even sporting nation as Russia was, it’s purely about commercial interests. The veneer of credibility is nonexistent.

Yeah I'm probably being a bit selfish with wanting it to be in the summer purely because it suits us in Europe. The corruption is the biggest and most shameful issue.

I must admit I'm warming to the idea of winter outdoor screenings with pissed up England fans throwing scalding hot mugs of mulled wine in the air when we score instead of beer . And those who do throw their beers getting frost bite.
