    Number One: George Raynor

Born in Hoyland, Barnsley & played for the Blades as well as Mansfield, Bury & Rotherham. George is feted as a football hero in Sweden where as National Coach he guided Sweden to numerous footballing successes between 1948 & 1958. He won 'em the 1948 Olympic Gold Medal at Wembley, finished 3rd in the 1950 World Cup. Got another 3rd place & a bronze medal in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics & then in 1958 got the Swedish natioanl team, as hosts, to the World Cup Final which they lost to Brazil. He was knighted by the King of Sweden for this & then in 1959 orchestrated a 3-2 win over England at Wembley, only the 3rd English defeat on home soil. He then went onto to manage Juventus & Lazio in Italy.

Amazing stuff & I'd never heard of him until I read a letter about him in todays Star. No idea what his playing record is like as a Utd player but will have a gander in the bible later to see if he's listed.

PS. Number 2 in the series is Martin Peters but we won't mention what he was like whilst at BDTBL.

ivor allchurch , was scorer of one of those all time top 20 world cup goals on last week , but the fact it was for wales , in a world cup finals is also great for its rarity value

    Takes some beating.

I've even got a Greek shirt with 'Dellas 5' on the back. How sad is that? I haven't even got a United shirt either. The man is amazing.
