Follow up to best Liverpool manager thread a while back Shortlisted 3 people Souness and Hodgson are the first 2, but most of you should know them by now My pick though, is Don Welsh. He took Liverpool from 8th in div 1, to 11th in div 2 Also has the lowest winrate amongst all Liverpool managers What do you think? Or do you think it's someone else?
Before my time really but probably Souness, on the face of it he oversaw one of the biggest declines in the club's history.
Hodgson imo, luckily he wasn't around long enough do too much damage. He was just the complete wrong fit for Liverpool and the stuff he said pretty much weekly was just cringy.
And thank god too, he is pretty much my number one as the worst Liverpool manager. He simply wasn't a Liverpool manager, he made us to be a complete laughing stock with his body language, the stuff he was coming out with, it was absolutely shocking, I'd dread to think where we would be if he continued on longer as a Liverpool manager.
souness ruined my childhood I recall clearly wishing he would just go for 6 months. However as stated above Hodgson was not ever good enough and his absolute stinking attitude to a massive job got him the sack. Welsh is probably before everyone's time here so how do we know what money he had or bad times? Pure statistics never tell the whole story.
Souness was shite. Older ones will remember the best player he had ever seen in Istvan Kozma. That good he played 6 games. Platini recommended Cantona to the moustached one and he said thanks but no thanks. Doh.
I can remember kozma scoring goals. League cup? what a signing. madness. Do you remember Souness binning Staunton and in effect bringing in Julian Dicks who had a bad knee as was 2 stone overweight.? I remember watching that 3-3 mad game against Utd where Ruddock scored and thinking to myself, what a difference there was in pure athleticism between Utd and Liverpool. They really were lightyears ahead in that aspect. (yet somehow we drew) But still despite it all hodgson was worse IMO.
on tv maybe . KK wasn't at Anfield since the real KK (Kevin Keegan aka King Kevin) left Liverpool for HSV (in the 70s he was known as King Kevin back then in the LFC fan community and changed his name to King Kenny after Kevin left LFC). SCNR KK
that was a joke from me (but I deleted it from the post, don't want to confuse ) FYI ARPANET - Wikipedia (not that you couldn't google it for yourself )
122 (1901)? Bad at maths? (tbh I didn't know it either and looked it up) But I know that I'd have to be only 100 to have watched HSV's first German Championship (so missed it only for a mere 40 years) edit: Sorry, KK, now I read it again and see my fault, he wrote 18 of LFC's 19 title wins, so 117 is correct. To have watched all 19 you'd have to be 122. Mea culpa. You're good at maths and I'm bad at understanding
Brendan's bad enough, but a Benitez shout in this thread is utterly ridiculous. The only two it's between in our lifetimes is Souness & Hodgson. You'd have to now realistically be in your late 70s to give any real judgement of Welsh's time beyond stats & reports, I can't recall my dad mentioning too much about him.
