The Ricoh would be a cracking ground if it was inside the city, mind you i never understood why they got rid of Highfield Road which was a brilliant old ground and more than big enough to sustain them.
Probably New York Stadium. Just silence. Only the away fans where making any noise. Every single Rotherham fan sat there with their arms crossed and a face on. Only time they moved was when they scored twice.
Liked Shrewsbury as an away day as it's close enough to a good town centre and a nice pub crawl (albeit a mile or two out). The ground itself is utterly soulless though, your archetypal new build. Would have liked to have gone to Gay Meadow though. Ricoh Arena is awful due to the location; miles out of town, in the middle of a retail park and only even half full about once a season. Highfield Road was fine. Agree with Madejski too. I'd add Oxford. Miles out of the city centre and from any station, a new build with bad facilities and only three sided. A two bob retail park. Soulless. Stinks of shit from the rural surroundings behind it. And to top it off the owner of the ground has screwed the club. Colchester similar. I'd say the rest of the 92 at least have something going for them (close to the centre, decent location, a bit of charm/character, good pubs nearby etc).
Bog off you knuckle dragging scrote. Can't believe you're criticising our lack of atmosphere when you "support" the club that plays in the UK's biggest library namely Old Trafford. BTW pray tell how you can you support TWO clubs???
Kenilworth Road & The Withdean take some beating. I like the old traditional grounds like Portman Road, Hillsborough & Villa Park. I watch the Premiership on Sky & can't believe how little atmosphere is generated at some of the new flat pack stadia.
Not sure that's anything to do with the new stadium's to be honest, i've done every single ground in the premier league this season and only the newly promoted clubs have an atmosphere really. The issue with the atmosphere is more to do with the Premier league than the ground build, we were noisy as f*ck in league one and the championship, but a few years has seen the make up of the crowd change and there's less lads there and more families and middle class people.
The answer is Ferney Park. At one stage it was literally a field with a metal bar around it to lean on. At one end was a huge ditch full of plants and bushes. If the ball went out for a corner or goal kick the players had to climb down the ditch and look through the bushes for the ball. Eventually they put a fence around the field to make it a "stadium". They also built a stand, but put in the corner, rather than at one end or in the middle of the pitch. It's also in the middle of nowhere, with some windy narrow country B road as its "main road" into the village.
I can see your point@franniestache football has become sanitised & you are correct that the ' real ' fans to a certain extent are getting priced out of the game. Whilst Bates (spit ) was in charge at Leeds a lot of families were priced out of the family stand & went into The Kop instead, thus the atmosphere dropped. These days however the pricing structure is better & now Elland Road is rocking again. Of course I'd love to see us promoted but even in the championship we are selling our home games out as well as our away allocations. Not everyone can afford a season ticket & do the games they can afford but as our ' floating ' support is pretty large this is fine at the moment. However on promotion there will be loads wanting to jump on the bandwagon & this could affect the atmosphere at home. Oh! well we aren't there yet so I'll worry about that as & when.
Yoker(who play in the Scottish Juniors) ground has to be one of the worst ever. Stand is burnt out, there’s graffiti everywhere from Celtic Fans, it was bitterly cold when I went, toilets basic. Only good point is they have a nice little bar.
I went to Ferney Park once, stopped in Enniskillen the night. Was in the bar which sold awful pints tbh, a few minutes later a lad in a Linfield tracksuit top was chased out by a group of Glentoran Fans. The stand and Two Terraces are alright. Shame it’s in the back of beyond.
