Fact is Ronaldo scored 42 goals and he plays in a better league (defensively).

He won everything. Messi hasn't he only may do until then Ronaldo is the better player.

Debatable. Fernando Torres for one would disagree.

:rolleyes So Messi's mesmeric form this season counts for nothing ?, fact is last season is over, gone, from what we've seen so far this season Messi is the best player on the planet, as for Your assertion that Premiership defences are better, based on what ? :hmmm

    Err... what?!

As for the question, who knows, but he certainly can't better Ronaldo's record of being a prick.

I rate Ronaldo the better player after seeing what he done last season and he was the better player out of the 2, i dont think Messi will beat Ronaldo's last seasons goal scoring record either, This season Messi is looking the better player though but we will see at the end of the season.

But Messi has to earn it first.

ibtw its not all about goalscoring . for example ronaldo scored alot of goals but assist wise he was poor plus 75 percent of his goals were tap ins....

ronaldo can never do what messi has done for barca ........ his carried them along for the last three seasons.

Good point. Messi has carried Barce and it's not as if Ronaldo was the key figure in the doing the double last season.....

I watch pretty much every game he plays and I think he is better than Ronaldo, but not 'by miles' as you so eloquently put it...

You just hate him. It's sad really.

    Yeah, especially your heart...

Firstly, it doesn't matter how he scored those goals. He scored 42 goals and some were spectacular goals.

We scored about 80 something goals in the EPL last year; Ronaldo scored 32 of them. He was also the leading goal scorer in the CL. So your second point has been disproved.

I dont care tbh how a player scores goals, it's just that you do that counts, and to mention Ronaldo's low assists is a bit of stupid arguement, when Ronaldo scored 40+ goals of course that player would have a small amount of assists because Ronaldo is scoring the goals you tart and therefore wont pick up the assists :dunce: although he still had quite a few anyway.

To compare them stats wise fringey is stupid, Ronaldo wins hands down, no arguement about it really.

And it seems last season Messi could'nt do what Ronaldo does best...scoring goals, Messi for all i care can dribble past just about every player and pull off hundreds of tricks whilst he's at it, but if he aint putting them away or creating the goals like Ronaldo then he aint the better player in my eyes.

    agreed.

However, Ronaldo's had a pretty crap season, so unless he improves massively towards the end of it, Messi will be picking up the awards later on.

at the moment i'd say Messi is the better player. But how people can even try to debate who the better player was last year and last season is beyond me, Ronaldo was phenomenal.

I agree as i state in my above post...Messi is looking the better player this season, and no offence but i hope Messi does beat Ronaldo's record as i simply cannot stand him, but he has to earn it first before he can be labelled a better player :thumb

"Messi has carried Barca" ?, don't be f**king ridiculous  Eto'o is only a couple of goals behind him, Henry has weighed in with quite a few too, Alves is having a superb season, Xavi is the most effective and under rated CM in the game, Iniesta is back and at his best too, Puyol is till the same old same old :thumb . Messi is having a superb season and is the main man imo but Barca are a team in every sense of the word, this season they have been a joy to watch, pure attacking football and we should all be thankful for that

Well maybe You want to compare their scoring records this season before talking bollocks :slap:

Messi has 23 goals from 26 games.

Ronaldo has 13 goals from 26 games.

I agree I think people are forgetting though that Ronaldo has just recovered from a pretty nasty injury and was out for a bit of the season at the start and then took a while to get back into the swing of things so it's going to be impossible for him to be anywhere near last seasons form.

Also Barcelona are on fire and have been from the start we however had a bit of a stuttering start and alot of our players were under performing so that doesn't help him.

He hasn't won 'FIFA World player of the year or European player of the year' like Ronaldo.

Hardly he's still lost in Ferdinands pocket

Based on Lionel Messi not being able to break through our defence last April.
