I'm amazed DAZN deem this worth paying for. I hardly ever watch National League on TV as it's generally shite, I see enough shite football in person at matches as it is. Why anyone in the States or Middle East would want to watch is beyond me.
Guaranteed now having paid advance train tickets for Halifax at the end of September, expecting it to be a 3pm KO, to be moved to a 5:15/5:30 KO.
Apart for the Covid year, we have never had an away game on TV. Chill. We only get one home game a season. NLTV isn’t for us.
Also booked train tickets to Halifax for the opening day. If it's switched to 17:30 there are no trains back!
Sounds ominous for the 3pm Saturday games watching when you’re “abroad”! Didn’t miss watching a game last season really either in person or when “abroad” - grim having to go back to listening to commentary (if even available) for the away games I can’t make.
Bit of an odd deal this one. DAZN is a streaming service, not a TV service, so how you watch it is proactive rather than reactive. You won't casually come across National League games and watch them, viewers will typically load up the service to watch something specific (like Boxing). Only around 100,000 subscribers in the UK, the majority of those are Boxing fans so again it's unlikely they'll be logging on to the service at a time or a date when National League games are being shown. It's a bit telling that there has been no detail on the financial benefits for clubs and the fact this is a 7 year agreement suggests it's fairly low risk for DAZN. Content rights in the UK are pretty limited and more extensive in Europe. Feels like a bit of a play to try and recapture some of the international exposure the league enjoyed when Wrexham were in the National League. There are far more significant audiences outside of the UK. The question is, is the National League really that attractive?
