I'm pretty sure we get another special section for the upcoming Euro 2024 in my country but I'll open this thread here in the meantime. Not even a month until it starts at June 14th with the opening match:

Germany vs Scotland in Munich's Allianz Arena

Today, Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann announced Germany's Euro 2024 squad:

5 players from VfB Stuttgart in it. but without Dortmund's Mats Hummels. According to @Eaman one of the best defenders ever ;) (SCNR eaman)

With Pavlovic from Bayern even a player who hasn't even made a match for Germany yet (He should made his debut in the last 2 friendlies in March but was out because of illness. Pretty sure he will be in the last 2 friendlies against Ukraine and Greece. Pavlovic was born in Munich in 2004, his mother is German and his father is Serbian. So he could've also been available for the Serbian team )

btw: in the english wiki article there are the venues listed. Strangely most are "renamed" for the Euro. Another bollocks from the UEFA. Thankfully the Volkspark is still the Volkspark and not the "Hamburg Arena". But I see that they reduced its capacity from 57.000 for Bundesliga to 52.000 for international matches,

Please post the Euro 2024 squads of your countries, if you like! And may the best team win!

Only a month until I travel out for our group games. Travelling to Dortmund (well Gelsenkirchen really) , Frankfurt and Cologne.

Buzzing. Always wanted to follow England at a major tournament :drink:

One of the least balanced squads in the Euros, no wonder Nagelsman had to make some tough decisions. Put Matthaus, Ballack and prime Klose in that side and it'd be strong faves to win the thing, I reckon.

Wirtz, Kroos, Gundogan, Sane, Musiala is a FIFA video game wet dream though. Still think Germany are a dark horse this summer.

Who’s likely to be dropped from that squad? Or is that the actual squad?

The final squad has to be in the range from 23 to 26. Nagelsmann already said that he wants 4 GK plus 22 player, so he has to drop only 1 from the above list. I'd assume that it will be either Maxi Beier from Hoffenheim or Alex Pavlovic from Bayern. But you never know with Nagelsmann ;)

Only in the opening match against Germany or generally? Tbh I also want Scotland to win every match, except against us ;)

I imagine that Germany is just about the best place to follow a team at an international tournament. Good public transport links with a good choice of airports a decent range of scenery across the country, decent locals, safe place to travel, and good beer.

We're actually going by train which has proven to be far cheaper with the special interrail pass for ticket holders. Approx 250 quid which will include travel within Germany too.

Accommodation on the otherhand.. I don't want to talk about it

Cheers, I didn’t realise they’d extended the squad sizes. It’ll be interesting to see who makes the final cut for England.

My old boss is afraid of flying so used trains a lot on mainland europe. And the extended time taken to travel aside, he said it was a much nicer way to travel.

If he was going to south of France he needed to get a 5am taxi to the ferry. The ferry took him to Cairnryan where he would get on a bus to Ayr. In Ayr he got the trainto Galsgow/Edinburgh, then got a train to London. He would stay overnight, then get the first Eurostar out of London, which sometimes required a change in Paris. It would take him about 30-36 hours total. Despite that he thought it was great, and said that paying the upgrade for 1st class is worth it on the longer train journeys.

Defence aside, which is probably the best on paper in the tournament (I mean, Dumfries, Maatsen and Frimpong as WB's, Ake, VVD and De Ligt in the middle -- lovely stuff), this has to be one of the more average Dutch squads I've seen in a while. Feel like it's been like this for a decade now. What's happened to them?

They definitely seem to be going through a lean period when it comes to attacking players.

I did an interrail holiday with the wife in 2015. Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France then back to Britain. Was absolutely fantastic and the train network in Europe is brilliant. From what I remember Germany was one of the only countries that lets you use interrail on their high speed ICE trains with no fee or reservation. With the other high speed trains like Thalys or TGV you had to reserve your seats in advance and pay a fee. So we avoided them but used the high speed trains in Germany. They serve currywurst on them too

We reserved for two of our internal journeys the ICE trains. 8 quid extra, not bad!!

Yeah reservations are worth it for the guaranteed seats. £8 is nothing really is it. The ICE trains were definitely the best value. The French run TGV trains are unsurprisingly a rip off. Enjoy a bier and currywurst for me. Not jealous at all .

    @Philip The Frog

Are you happy with the French squad selected?

    Merci. We will.

Standard. Some people were calling for Lacazette to get called up but I'm pretty satisfied with this. Wouldn't have taken Zaire-Emery as he's been bollocks since a Gibraltar defender seriously injured him back in late 2023. He needs a rest this summer but he wants to play the Euros and especially the Olympics.
Mbappé has been a dick all season and Enrique has managed him as best he could. Hopefully Deschamps plays him in a position where he contributes to team ethic (wouldn't hold my breath though). Average side compared to the usuals but still the best out there in terms of sheer quality (with England of course).

    The games I'm attending are:
    15/06: Spain/Croatia (Berlin)
    17/06: Belgium/Slovakia (Frankfurt)
    25/06: France/Poland (Gelsenkirchen)

    Have a fröhe tournament, peeps!

if "we" meet, we'll make it three wins in a row in a year :D

    Berlin?
Pfft, I hate the Olympiastadion with its track. Frankfurt and Schalke is ok, though. At least you can watch a France match.

btw: The Euro 2024 mascot is called "Albärt" (Albert) a combination of Albert and Bär (German for Bear). :fail:

I'm looking forward to that for the sheer historic value of the place. Already went to have a wander around and it was impressive. It's also one of those grounds that you want to visit without witnessing the home side (Hertha Bsc) as they can't fill their ground and the away fans will make MUCH more noise than the locals so a Euro game suits me fine and it looks alright on paper. Another fitting event to visit it would have been a Pokal final. Not to be. Still very much looking forward to visit Berlin & Frankfurt.

I have no idea why I wrote Gelsenkirchen in my previous post. France/Poland will be in Dortmund of course (which is ok I suppose but it ain't Schalke!).

Are you staying in the cities themselves?

We actually got some very reasonably priced accommodation. In places like Leverkusen, Mainz and Wuppertal. We are staying in Gelsenkirchen for the first game for 2 nights but even that was only £140 a night, which was a lot better than I was expecting.
