I can't believe there's some Liverpool fans that want Klopp out a season after winning the domestic treble. In all seriousness though, it will be very interesting to see how this develops...
Hopefully the main thing that comes from this is 'Vinny' Kompany being stripped of his absurd goal of the season award from 2018/19. To be awarded that ahead of Andros Townsend's screamer a month earlier absolutely reeked of corruption. Funnily enough it was around then when they started being investigated. Scum.
I personally don’t really believe in stripping titles from teams. I’ve seen it done in US sport and the runner up team isn’t retroactively handed a title, it just goes on the record books like it never happened. Pundits kind of don’t acknowledge it for a few years and in ten years time everyone acknowledges the team that won really did win the title, everyone remembers the results and what actually happened despite what the books say. A round of relegations, fine, and points deduction would be the most significant punishment and actually impact the club going forward. That all said, I do pity the United and Liverpool fans that would’ve ended up winning the league during those years, especially when City was already under investigation and a punishment could’ve been handed out more timely
Some club always gets to run riot then the draw bridge gets pulled up after them. City allowed to do what the hell they wanted for years even though everyone knew what they were doing. Newcastle missed the boat lol. Chelsea with the loans and contracts which weren't even breaking the rules but other clubs can't do the same now after they've already benefited. Bit late! Definitely feeling less cynical about a half way decent penalty for City seeing stuff like this.
The cynic in me expects the same "punishment" as in previous cases against city, a "massive" fine that their owners can pay out of their pocket change, then another set of charges in another 10 years and the process will repeat.
If they dont dish out appropiate punishment the league will implode as 1) you'll probably get clubs who have missed out on titles, cups, CL places, etc that will threatening to sue or 2) if they dont get appropiate punishment every other club will just say "**** this, why should we comply with the rules then?" and if any punishment is then handed to other clubs they'd have a great grounds to appeal.
Obviously don't know all the in's & outs surrounding City's alleged breaches but can imagine they'll be able to afford far better lawyers than the Premier League can hence the furore being put to bed after a long drawn out series of court appearances though hope I'm wrong , Premier League football & the amount of money / debt surrounding it needs to change .
Without a doubt. I wouldnt stop at the PL though. The whole game and the money involved needs to be looked at. Ridiculous fees, ridiculous wages, scandalous agent fees, the lot.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out. May as well say officially say bye bye to FFP if it's just a 'slap on the wrist' type punishment
