Jurgen Klopp says 12:30 kick-offs are a 'crime' - does Liverpool boss have a point? - BBC Sport Regardless of how it impacts Liverpool, football has sold its soul to TV and the early kick-off is one of many awful slots. I'm sure we'd all be unhappy for football only to be 3pm and no other time, would make weekends long and time between rounds of games seem forever I don't have the LFC stats available here, on a file at home, but slowly but surely across the Premier League 3pm kick-off times (for Liverpool, and others, but my records are for LFC) have decreased to the point used to be around 50% of matches 3pm Saturday and now those on a Saturday are few and far between. I know Liverpool have played so few that I looked them up and posted, possibly in a BBC have your say but can repeat it - can almost recall the games it involved is a good start 19/08/23 SAT 3pm LIV 3-1 BOU 10/02/24 SAT 3pm LIV 3-1 BUR 02/03/24 SAT 3pm FOR 0-1 LIV Obviously Liverpool have played on Thursday nights but only impacted 9 games which someone decided Liverpool play Sunday each time LFC 23/24 league games by day Saturday 11 (3x 3pm) Sunday 16 (9 directly following European games) Monday 1 Tuesday 1 Wednesday 4 Thursday 2 Friday n/a Before anyone 'thinks'/claims I am making excuses, being like Klopp etc, it is genuine interest in the mess that is fixtures in modern day English top flight football. Comes to something when less than 1/3 of games are on a Saturday and less than 1/12 at 3pm on said day I could, and am effectively going to, say that some of the who plays first when it comes to run ins can be crucial, pressure if the team at the top plays first although some could counter that the pressure to win playing first counters the pressure to win if the team playing first and goes clear wins. I have no objection to games played outside of 3pm Saturday but should be 5-6 played at that time though - final day games excluded of course (and midweek).
Saturday games should be 3PM and no other time, end of. Maybe 1 x 5.30PM game if they insist on a live game. 12.30 kick offs are turgid, games are rarely exciting, crowds always seem subdued and its a nightmare for long travelling fans i.e Newcastle v Bournemouth and the likes, having to leave at 4/5/6 in the morning to get there. So out of 11 Saturday kicks off we only had three at 3PM? thats shocking.
12:30 kick offs should have more rules put in place to consider the teams themselves and the fans in attendance. For sure a team should not play a midweek away game and then an away 12:30pm game as Liverpool have done twice this season iirc. I am sure it's happened to others. There should be no 12:30 after an international break.
Klopp also laid into fifa. Called them corrupt to their faces. Told tnt to do one and asked will the sue me not and laughed. Fairly hilarious press conference. I'd say they mood must be good in camp this week.
Fully on board with you but that would no doubt mean a reduction in money. I have zero faith premier league clubs will accept that.
Imo no side should be forced to play a midweek game at night be it a cup, Europe or league and be asked to trun thst around to 12:30 The reality of 12:30 is it was brought in for the Asian Market and the amount of football now played has totally over taken it. We have 2 games a week constantly. There are 30 odd weekends only a few league weeks go to the midweek. Why is the rule maximum 6 for a team? Why not 4, why not 2 and force the thing to be spread out fully. Why don't sky be forced to take this tie and force them to give up the 5:30 or 2pm slot on Sunday. Why should sky get the prime slots all the time? Literally nobody likes 12:30. Match going fans don't like it. Away fans don't like it TV viewers don't like it Yanks don't watch it as its early early morning. Clubs don't like it Players don't like it. It's literally there for the cops and Asian TV viewers The law of the land means TV can now fill Saturday with football if it likes 12:30pm 3pm 5:30pm 8pm The TV companies would not like the law to change to have 2pm and 4pm kikc offs like the Sunday.
Fans will moan but if was german or Italy fans would boycott matches....but we'll moan and then buy a ticket.
I'll be getting 4am coach to Fulham next Saturday, sadly theyve ground us down and it's just the norm
Given Fulham fans will be paying over a hundred to sit and watch in silence which probably drinking coffee to wake up rather than a beer while your will be half asleep off the buses
Because klopp gave fifa a dig in the same press conference so if he seemingly has to "shut up" due to a club having to play in the play offs then surely he has to shut up about fifa too.
I do find it quite funny that people are using a examples of exactly what Klopp is complaining about to then bash Klopp with. Liverpool bad....
