South Shields born Offiong, who will turn 18 in December, has agreed a contract which keeps him at St. James' Park for the next 4 years. Offiong has been a revelation for United in the past year. Last season he was a part of the successful Under 17 side which reached the Final of the Under 17 League Play Offs. During the season he made 31 appearances scoring 30 goals and also received a call up into the England Under 17 squad. This season he has been on target again for the Under 19s, scoring three times in their opening two games. In addition he made his first appearance for the Reserves at Blackburn last month having scored three goals for them in pre-season friendly matches. Alan Irvine, United's Academy Director said: "We are very pleased to have agreed a professional contract with Richard. He is a player of immense promise and, if he can continue to progress as he has done over the last 12 months, he could have a bright future in the game." Offiong joins fellow England Under 19s International forward Michael Chopra in the professional ranks, the latter having signed professionally in December 2000. Looks like this player could be one to watch in the future!
Wow you been doin ya research havent ya! Aye him and Chopra are both great toon prospects for the future and if they knuckle down and progress then i dont see why they could be future england internationals
Well, well, barrass returns, so much for keeping this forum tickin over, tut tut come on stephen get a grip!! On the Offiong front yes he is fu*kin amazing and he is Shoala Ameobi's cousin, lets hope he turns out a bit better!
Bit harsh m8! He saved us from the brink of division 3! Admitedly **** for England but as a Toon fan "i luv im i do"! The only thing i criticise him over when it comes to Newcastle is the fact he got rid of the reserves and youth set up! That is why we have had no younguns comin through and Shola is the first youngster to break through in a long time!
