Would Benitez have looked to have bought the youth through and played a long term game?
Bic, "a large proportion of our support love him" and it would cause problems when the fans would want Benitez backed no matter what because he can do no wrong apparently. Why should they go down that road.

If Rogers keeps Liverpool improving bit by bit then I think he will keep getting money to spend and will be there for a long time IMO. If Suarez goes though you will struggle to find someone to replace him.

Ridiculous to suggest getting rid of Rodgers.

    He will be a success.

You may or may not be rapidly declining but you have had your worst 4 league finishes on the trot since 1950's.

Only because the top half of the table is as competitive now as it's been for decades.

Every club has its ups and downs.

Obviously a few poor decisions (Carroll, Hodgson, all the purchases in summer 10) have set us back but the club as a whole is on the rise. After the season we had in 10/11 no realistic Liverpool fan thought we'd bounce straight back, it's a process and it may take a few years but I'm confident we'll be back.

Agreed, I'm more optimistic for the future than I've been for a long time. We have some very talented young players that'll improve massively over the next few years.

Exactly. We dropped away so far so fast, from the club's highest ever points total in 08/09 and 4 points off the title (incidentally the same points total that won the title the next season) to finishing 5 places and 23 points worse off the next season, all the while with the threat of administration looming and the worst manager in the club's history taking over. At that same time we allowed the richest club in the world to cement top 4 and clubs with good ownership and sensible planning and building also get ahead of us. It was always going to take longer to rebuild from that than it took to fall, but I'm confident we're heading the right way.

I think it should also be noted that whilst Rafa was highly respected amongst a lot of the fanbase a lot of the fanbase vehemently wanted him gone. The club also needs stability, not our 5th manager in 3 years. And I can help but feel that going back just wouldn't live up to the first time. He's got Istanbul and that will always be there and compared against. Really, I'd just like us to back Rodgers. He's young and makes mistakes, just like the team (youngest average age in the league this season), but that will improve with time and I like the route we're travelling.

Part of the reason but certainly not the "only" reason.

You'll be back amongst CL places sooner rather than later but you may take a lot longer to win the title. That said stranger things have happened I suppose.

Best concentrate on finishing above Everton though, first things first.:hiding

I would myself, if we didn't have a manager at the moment or even Hodgson was still in charge...but I'd like to see Rodgers given some time.

After everything Rodgers has done so far I am convinced Liverpool will be back in champions league in a few years time, maybe 3 years time.

Should have a few new quality players in as well, especially after getting Sturridge, Sahin + Coutinho (I know Sahin was a loan but still) you're definitely heading into the right direction. I kinda miss our champions league matches haha

    Again, it's a process.

Baby steps, first things first we need to get back in the CL as quickly as possible.

If we didn't have Rodgers I'd agree with taking him back. But I'd rather give Rodgers a chance because he is getting there little by little, and with a few more tweaks in the summer I think he could be on for a strong season, next season.

Was Hodgson really such a poor manager or should the fans and club just have given him more respect and support?

Maybe the worst since the war, signing Konchesky was about the worst of his signings. imo

Shocking manager, crap signings and losing to a team below us and accepting it as a good result and that we played well. Not exactly music to our ears considering he was battling to win us over in the first place.

It's not that Roy is a bad manager, he was just a bad fit for the the club at that time. We need progression and Hodgson's philosophy is anything but.

Hodgson is a dinosaur. Shouldn't have got the Liverpool job and shouldn't be England manager.
