Like in rugby - the on pitch official has control and asks to see something again if they want to rather than being bashed in the ear by someone saying that they must be wrong.
Every matchday big discussions here. Many are against it. Although sometimes it is good to have a VAR review. Yesterday btw in the very important match in the 2.Bundesliga Schalke vs Düsseldorf (where both teams are needing every point, Schalke to avoid relegation and Düsseldorf to get promotion) the ref gave a penalty for Schalke in the last seconds at 1-1. Very soft one tbh and the VAR decided to give him a note and he reviewed it (lasted more than 2 mins, though) and after it he declined the penalty (which was the right choice btw) and you can imagine the exhausted reaction of the 61.000 Schalke fans in the Veltins Arena (ok, a few thousand Fortuna amongst them were relieved) I have mixed feelings about VAR tbh
https://x.com/forest_review/status/1785345106024759554?s=46&t=57r9epVyBRPKEIOCR2PMCw Link to the VAR audio of the Ashley Young on Hudson-Odoi incident which the PGMOL have admitted was an error today. Just makes you angry - what the hell was he looking at. I’m going to cite “mutual engagement” each and every time I hack someone down from behind in the box from now on. Just rank incompetence.
the key is the ref says Young got the ball, that alone should send him to the screen to decide for himself as his decision was fundamentally wrong, he still may not have given the foul but he should have reviewed it
That should be the first thing asked and checked really before anything else. A better and more experienced ref like Taylor might have given it rather than just go ok lads off we go. Are they going to have real time audio or just announce what the decision is?
It's just rank. If you are going to have the system then have a clear protocol. I sincerely doubt the var even listened to the ref call. The ref should be stating his decision. No penalty. Player tackle wins ball. Var simply has to then check that contact first. It's patently obvious he didn't get the ball therefore its a clear and obvious error and ref must go view screen. They can check offsides and other reasons to get their man out of trouble le while.he views the screen. Most of these end up being pure opinion pieces but we have enough examples now of refs making bad calls and having var.make up ridiculous statements to back the man not get the actual decision right. Again. Odengaard handball. Ref claimed his hand was on the ground the replay on first view showed clearly it was ot but var went ahead to make up.exaucsed to back their.man. If he looked again and stated it was just saving himself from falling by swiping at the ball then at least we'd now he was corrupt and not just incompetent. Lol
WTF? Mutual engagement? No, Young just ploughed right through the forward. They're clowns mate. The day Doku kicked MacAllister in the chest for a cert pen VAR knobheads claimed "both came in high".... Doku came in high with his boot, MacAllister came in high with his chest ffs So I guess we can all go around footy fields kicking opponents in the chest, our defence, his chest was high.
When the blue cards come out next season the ref can send them off for half an hour for time-wasting.
Reduce the number of fans in the stadium to force people to watch action on TV, thought that would be the last thing you'd support.
Won’t make the blindest bit of difference to anything if it’s shown. One thing I’ve noticed with VAR, even with purely objective things like offside, people will only accept their own opinion on something. I really don’t see the point in showing subjective decisions.
If I see it on TV then I can clearly see if it's offside, where there was a handball etc Hey if your happy sat in Old Trafford not knowing what the **** is going on then good for you
True and really the reaction to decisions etc isn't much different to before which was probably what VAR meant to do. Less debate and discussion but now we have even more!
