London Mayor results coming in suggest a routine Khan win... More traditionally Conservative areas in London voting Labour.
I think we had a mix of Labour managing expectations and right wing client journalists talking tripe to make it seem like Khan could lose. In the end the only way the Tories have a shot at winning in London is to put up a serious candidate... and they didn't. If you put up someone in London who is accused of Islamophobia, you get what you deserve.
There was a concerted effort by some right wing "commentators" on Twitter yesterday to suggest that the polling was very tight, with some even going as far as suggesting that Hall was actually winning. A clear ploy to create a narrative that the vote is close and then when it comes out, as it is now, that Khan is miles ahead they can start to use the Trump handbook and claim the voting was rigged
The brummie mayor will decide if the tories take out sunak before the election. They might just.gamble on the sword wielding penny "who" mordant but the racist line up will be front and centre to get a short stint at the pm pension
Fair enough. Honestly thought that Khan was so disliked in London that he would be ousted. Guess people stuck more to party line voting than on individuals - although admittedly the Tory candidate was pretty poor.
Genuinely feel like the social media noise re. Khan comes from broadly folk outside London. I’m from an outer London borough and am aware of people disliking him primarily cause of ULEZ, but broadly speaking London, especially inner London, will go Labour more often than not. And despite misgivings and certain problems, I like Khan. And it’s amusing seeing the right wing lose their minds about him and his reelection. The man has faced Islamophobia in literally every campaign, it’s nice to see that backfire lol
Most of the negativity I saw about him was regarding the rising violent crime rate and not ULEZ, but again fair enough.
One thing we've definitely seen with the Khan campaign is that Twitter bots can create lots of noise to suit the agenda of whoever is controlling them, but said bot accounts can't actually get out and vote. So it might seem that there is lots of people against him, but the vote has shown a completely different story
I see braverman the ardent fascist has piped up stating she regrets.backing sunak now. Not brave enough to actually try oust him but brave enough to have a go.
The level of dislike for Khan is certainly overhyped. I do think the Tories could have pushed him harder this campaign but they basically put someone up who was telling us how shit London is. And lo and behold it didn't work. Also doesn't help just how dreadful the Tory image is right now anyway, so to have had any shot at winning they'd have had to put u[ a seriously brilliant candidate - and I don't think one exists right now.
The tory spin is all their voters just went on strike? Yet then braverman said there's no spinning the results lol Just using the usual low turn out to spin something when all other opportunities to spin were gone.
Khan is widely liked in London, Ulez is also widely liked in London, most of the people who lose their shit about him are people that don't live in London, and a hell of a lot of it is just racism. The funny thing is the more the right wing nutters bang on about Khan the more they make people stand up for him in the city itself. Absolutely spot on though ULEZ is far less of an issue than a lot of people make it out to be, i'm in zone 3 and just inside the ULEZ and no one round me really seems to give a shit as their cars all qualify anyway. They care far more about affordable housing, free schools meals for their kids, functioning public transport and crime
It's mostly black on black which he will not admit as he says knife crime is down which is total bollocks,he spends more money on virtue signalling than he does on fighting crime and building more homes. I used to go to London every Saturday night to watch blues bands but i wouldn't go there now.
