Holding it in South America was such a obvious choice with the centenary of the original World Cup. How have they managed to entirely f*ck this up?

    So weird.

Anyway Spain, Morocco, and Portugal will be an incredible vibe.

So would the first 3 matches in South America be played by the hosts of the tournament? Spain, Portugal, Morocco?

    ****ing weird.

Expanding the World Cup killed any chances of a South American World Cup because Argentina's economy isn't faring well these days. We're going to see more and more nonsensical hosts in the future as well.

One of the great things about an international tournament is having all of the fans in one place. It ruins it when you're spreading it over multiple countries / three continents.

Teams won’t know to base themselves and never mind the poor fans who won’t afford to go and obviously not good for the environment!

The 3 South American countries are qualifying automatically. No doubt they all would have made it anyway but what a shit-show.

It probably will be in 2034 as FIFA have said only bids from Asia and Oceania will be considered. I got hopeful Australia might get it when I read it but as I read further into the article Saudi have already said they will bid. Their brown envelopes will be far fatter so expect them to get it.

I presume the 3 South American counties will be the ones playing in their country but obviously they and their opponents will have to travel back to Europe /Morocco .

Exactly. Anything is better than another desert World Cup only 8 years after Qatar.

Qatar was the last World Cup being hosted in a single country possibly ever. Very sad.

The Women's World Cup was a great success. Hosting the men's won't be the same as more teams and much, much more tourists but it would be cool either way. Not sure there will be enough big grounds though. Once you get past Sydney & Melbourne (2 massive places who could easily offer 3 grounds each), things get very small very fast (like Adelaide). Australia really should have hosted the WWC by themselves as NZ really isn't interested by a 48-team tournament? Tough sell.

I am willing to bet this had been done to set up Saudi announcement shortly. the rest of asia is going to be shafted.

Fifa might be saying now its open but the bribes are already in. anyone wasting thier resources bidding is being scammed.

The morons have expanded the World Cup making it too big for the South American countries to host on their own. So this is the fudge that they've come up with :rolleyes

What a croc of shit on what would be the 100th anniversary of the very first tournament.

Thought the next one in Canada, USA and Mexico was bad enough, this is shite.

Optus Stadium here in Perth hold 60,000 and, in my opinion, although I am biased, is one of the best Stadiums in Australia. The problem as well is FIFA like rectangular stadia and pretty much all of them here are oval shaped due to AFL. I also forgot that it will be 48 teams in 2034 so, yeah, that makes it more difficult to have here. Not sure if a joint bid with NZ and Japan is do-able? All moot anyway as Saudi Arabia will probably get it. They are desperate to sport wash so pretty sure they can, ahem, persuade FIFA to have it there ;)

F*ck it, why not, lets have a Pacific Ocean Island Nation World Cup - New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Fiji, Tonga, and Papua New Guinea as hosts.
