I think the whole thing should be looked at in the UK. Germany have a good system I think. Really slow around schools etc., like 20kph and speed cameras in areas where there have been accidents - so to make it safer rather than to generate revenue as it is in the UK, sadly...
Agreed, and the UK should scrap the fixed penalty notices of £60 for speeding and instead adopt the Dutch system that the faster you go, the higher the fine. In the Dutch system, if you're only slightly over the speed limit, the fine can be as low as € 10, but for the real road devils fines can go up to € 500. Also, fines will be higher in dangerous areas (residential areas, around schools, during roadworks etc.).
I hit 108mph in my 1.1 Peugeot 206 heading over to Hexham. I was quite honestly petrified! Everything which could shudder did, but it was incredible at the same time!
Ironically - I got caught speeding and went on this speed awareness course. They were syaing that more accidents happen on "B" roads and that Motorways in the UK are the safest in Europe - I presume its true if thats what they were preaching, I fell asleep after that.
