Me too, was going to pull a clever one and pick Scmeichel whilst everyone picked the strikers

That's the only reason I signed up. Inside my head: "Oooh I can show everyone what a clever dick I am by picking Schmeichel while they all sign strikers"

Ruud Van Nistelrooy - One of the best poachers in Premier League history. Great goalscorer.

Van Nistelrooy better than Shearer in Gary Neville's eyes, good pick.

My pick - the one and only Ryan Giggs.

Since this is being judged on players' performances since the Premiership began, who can argue with this guy's record? No-one has achieved more than him. What Cristiano Ronaldo contributed in his few years in England pales in comparison to Giggs' extraordinary achievements.

The consummate professional, and a world-class winger for many a year.

Giggs may have been a great player over a long time, but he was never at the same levels as Ronaldo was between 2006 and 2009.

What's more impressive, being consistently very good for 20 odd years, or being excellent for three seasons?

Being world class for 3 seasons is better than being good for 15 years.

He has been more than 'good' for 15 years, in his prime Giggs was a world class winger.

Yes, and in the last few years he's not been anything great or special. Giggs was certainly prone to having a poor season. I'd say in his career he's had 6 or 7 great years, but I wouldn't say he's been anything special for quite a lot of his career. Yes, he's done a lot over a long period of time but so have many others (can't name them) who don't get near the credit Giggs get, partly due to the fact they haven't done it all at one club and I don't think being a legend at a particular club really should have that much of an effect.

Ronaldo had a few years at the same sort of level as Giggs before his three world class seasons, getting himself in the UEFA Team of the Year for 2004 and the PFA team of the year in 2005/06.

I'm not sure Giggs was ever world class. He has never been the best player at Man Utd and rarely ever a goal threat. A consistently very good winger in his best years but not up there with the very best attackers the Prem has ever seen.

I'm going for Edwin Van Der Sar. Cool as a cucumber and more consistent than the Great Dane, great with the ball at his feet too. AlsO was happy not to touch the ball for long periods, a rare quality.

Why is that a rare quality?

I know Joe Hart is always charging needlessly out of his area, but that doesn't apply to most keepers.

More consistent than Schmeichel? Don't think so.

Yes Celery, Schmeichel was more prone to a bad game or flanger than Edwin was. It is a rare quality, as keepers at top clubs have failed to live up to the hype as they haven't had the concentration levels to succeed.

I'm surprised no one has snapped him up yet, but my top choice is Stevie G, not only is he my favorite player of all time but in his prime he was the best all round player I have ever seen.
