It’s ironic as us brits are literally world famous for kicking off in a crowd, football/sporting events, Friday/Saturday nights in cities all over the country. It’s all alcohol related but that’s our culture. If guns were legal over here the weekends would be like the Wild West
Given we have huge festivals and mass gatherings with very little violence shows the opposite, in America it almost always ends in violence and no question thats why festivals never really took off in the US. Plus look at all the violence after their team has won the superbopwl or NBA etc...these are fans that have just won rioting, you dont get that here. A
Guns are banned during Trump's upcoming speech at the NRA conference Haven't seen that happen despite the fact banning guns don't work!
That's not what I was pointing out. It's the insistence you've had that for some reason "festivals haven't taken off" because of violence in the US when I already listed several of the more popular ones, not even the regional ones that have been happening every year for decades almost without incident. Not to mention state fairs, particularly in states like Texas that are such large gatherings it would make any festival in the UK look like a small meeting. You also seem to be overestimating "riots" from towns where sports teams win considering it's really just Philadelphia is really the only city known for complete madness after winning titles. I've been to multiple championship parades and gatherings for the Yankees and Giants and other than a few drunks, there has been nothing close to riotous behavior.
you ignoring football violence. A gift that we have given to the world. I’ve been to many boxing/mma events where it’s kicked off. I’ve also done security at festivals in my younger days. If it’s a dance event with everyones popping pills, there’s almost never any trouble. Any festival where most are drinking (most festivals), I promise you it kicks off far more than you are aware and a Marty pointed out, there are loads of music festivals in the states. I would guess far more than in the UK. edit: just googled searched it. We have less than 150 music festivals a year, the US holds over 500
Theres lots of violence in American crowds. In fact I would say there are much more especially these days in games in the US than england. And that was orgainsed violence not just gatherings of people which i was referring to. There are a lot of festivals mainly smaller in scale, but only became established in the 90's where Europe preceeded them by decades. Given the UK is 6/7 times smaller than US then its pretty much stacked in the UK's favour when it comes to amount of festivals. Been numerous riots in the US after their team won various championships. I remember numerous people being killed after detroit won the NBA, has that EVER happened in the UK...nope. Even your home city fans have rioted after the red sox won. Denver numerous riots, chicago numerous riots.
i think your giving the spineless hooligans too much credit. And is there any real difference to organised/unorganised violence? It’s still violence where innocent people can and do get hurt Political demonstrations aside I think you’re far more likely to see violence at British sporting event/large gatherings, bars, clubs etc due to our drinking culture
Yes when it comes to gatherings of people i think it does. And not sure you'll get large gatherings in a bar or club, I think we're geting further away from my original point.
Oh come on, what's a couple of downed lamp posts and flipped cars. Just sounds like you're soft. Anyway, I've just bought my tickets to Boston Calling Music Festival since I prefer smaller crowds to Coachella, EDC, and all the other dozen or so music festivals I've listed earlier that draw hundreds of thousands of people despite music festivals not being a big thing in this country. Also the Coachella line-up stinks compared to BC this year. No gun? Doesn't sound very American to me.
