Before I start, I'm not going to go off on one debating who is the better player.. imo, it's Andy Robertson but I understand that people may consider Tierney to be the better athlete. My point of the thread is that as Scotland, as a country we have brought through two immense footballers who seem to just keep on improving. In my opinion both are probably in the top 5 bracket in Britain atm, I would even consider Robertson the best in Britain, Tierney is only 20 year old.. and has made nearly 100 appearances for Celtic and he has already made a successful start to his international career. Anderson is slightly older, but considering that he is only 24, started his career at the basement of Scottish football within Queens Park in 2012 to where he is at now is an amazing achievement. Last night he played in a Champions League quarter final and looks set to play in the Semi if Liverpool carry on their great result. As our nation as a whole, we lack quality in the International front. We have a handful of good players, and it's frustrating that two of our best players happen to be Left backs. I think for Tierney to reach/fulfil his potential, I think he needs to move away from Celtic.. I think Celtic may get a few more seasons out of him, but when the likes of a Man Utd comes knocking, it's gonna be hard to refuse a decent bid and it would also be difficult for Kieran to refuse a massive pay rise, and play with world class players week in, week out. Robertson is flourishing at Liverpool.. and I think Tierney needs to move on to benefit himself. Tierney will stay at Celtic until 10 IAR or will leave if it doesn't happen.
Robertson has been absolutely superb lately for Liverpool and it's great to see him reach those heights. Tierney has strolled big European nights or us but Robertson is playing in a better team and at a higher level. Tierney won't be showing a lack of ambition by not going as he's playing out his lifetime ambition now and will go onto the level Robertson is currently playing at when he decides he's done enough with us.. . . .hopefully that is a few years away. As for luck, you're right. . . .we have two genuinely top class players and it's bad luck that they so happen to both be left backs.
Two fantastic players. Not really sure who is better overall, but certainly Robertson is getting tested more than Tierney is. It’s just great that Scotland have these two for years to come.
We've down the years had one or two great Scottish players in the squad King Kenny, Hansen, Souness, Nicol, etc...I'm hoping Robertson joins that illustious group. Wasn't fussed when we bought him and thought he'd just be a squad player, gladly been proven wrong and he's been utterly brilliant for us, for the first time in decades we have a decent left back which for so long has been a position we've had some shockers playing in.
Both are great players, Robertson has went on to a new level at Liverpool and become a better player than I thought he was a year or two back, always thought he was good but never PL winning team good which I think atm he is, Liverpool arnt far behind Man City now imo and a couple more players will see them and Robertson making a real go for the title next season. Tierney has looked special since he broke onto the scene at 17 and I remember a game against Fenerbache when he bossed Van Persie who maybe not have been at his best level but still vastly experienced and for a 17/18 year old to play him off the park was something. I see fans of other clubs always point to some of Celtics heavy CL defeats as a way to bring Tierney down but I have seen some of the best FBs in the world who have got World Class players surrounding them get ripped apart at that level. The game at home to Bayern and away to Anderlecht this seaosn showed the level Tierney can get to at a very young age of 20, he dominated those games and that is the highest level. Tierney also has the advantage of being able to play CB although it takes away his ability to go forward I think in the game against England it showed his ability to defend. Scotland need to find a way to fitting both in on the left hand side because any international side in world football would struggle agonist those to going forward and defending.
They're both good going forward and they play in sides that allow them to do that. Both are not that good defenders imo and I think Tierney is the better of the 2 in that respect, but still has a bit to go.
Here is Tierney on Robertson today and why his situation is different from Robertson's right now. Kieran Tierney: “It was a great performance from him (Andy Robertson) and he's been great this season, he deserves to be there, but for me when I was younger, it was Celtic.” KT: “If you want to play in the Champions League you play in it with Celtic and that's just the way it has been for me. All I really think about is Celtic."
To be honest as much is I liked Robertson I thought we signed the wrong Scottish LB this Summer. No telling what Klopp could have done with Tierney (who is even better than the remarkably good Rodgers at developing youngsters), but I’m utterly delighted with Andy. Either way Scotland have two exceptionally talented players and based on what I’ve seen and read of both, exceptional people to enjoy watching for the next few years.
All the best to this man in Kiev tomorrow, what a remarkable path he's took after being freed by his boyhood club. . CelticQuote@CelticQuote 16m16 minutes ago Press: "When you were growing up Andy, were you Liverpool or were you Real Madrid? What type of football would have appealed to you?" Andy Robertson: "It was Celtic. I was Celtic through and through. I didn't quite go anywhere outside Glasgow."
Not saying Tierney is at Robertsons level down there yet but he's very close. Showing his class yet again today and is one of the best defenders in that league
