He's out of work and would be a major improvement on Hodgson.

If needs be i'd put Dalglish in charge till the end of thet season, and then there'll be a better calibre of manager available in the summer.

Yeah I know his trophy record aint great but he wasn't given the job to do that, and so I thought he would do a job for you. Irrelevant really as we both think he aint up to it. I never really bought into the Benitez is terrible argument although I never rated him as highly as some of you men. Top and bottom is a new manager may be needed, how do you see that going?who is out there? Also what is going on with Torres (even Fowler is on his case apparently)!!

The new owners are not stupid. They will get someone else in,if results don't improve in the next 6-8 games

They would've probably wanted to bring in their own choice of manager for next season anyway.

Thats very scary if its true, from what ive read they don't know alot about 'soccer' so it could be an interesting choice.

The problem is, who advises the new owners. The board did a splendid job on cancer & aids, but what do they know about football of a whole? Plenty of shout for Dalglish as a tempory measure, some see him as an advisery type. Hidink is my choice.

    Super Tottenham from the lane.
Well first of all im shocked at how badly poulsen has done, i remember when you signed him i was going to post in the liverpool forum tht this was a great bit of business. Knowing me i wouldve devoted a page long thread on it, so im thankful i decided against that.

Roys in trouble now, i dont know who youve got next but i know chelsea are looming and its hard to find where that elusive win is going to come from. Hodgson wanted his big chance at a massive job in england, hes travelled the world over throughout his managerial career hoping it would all culminate in one last chance at making his mark in his own country. And its just all gone tits up for him. He was left a pretty average squad by Benitez, hes had an unfit and disinterested Torres, the enforced departure of Mascherano who is a bigger loss then many realise and his squad is pretty low on creativity (Joe Cole hasnt lived up to billing) making the negative tactics at times a neccesity.

But there a some things that hes just completely ballsed up. The inexplicable decision to farm out Aquilanni on loan. Hes also wavered a bit in terms of his interaction with the media. Didnt seem to understand the fans plight with the ownership like Bentiez did, and as you guys have pointed out he said all the wrong things with the Torres diving thing and the bigging up of such giants as Northampton and Blackpool. And according to you guys hes been found out at times tactically.

So for me hes a talented manager, who was left with an unenviable and treachourus job. But hes made it look just that.

The rot set in the second Hicks and Gillett took over the club.

But I still think Hodgson should have done far better with what he was left with. He was left a pretty solid squad, not the biggest squad around, but still I'd say it is about the 5th-7th best squad in the league...

They aren't going to be picking like that! They'll consult the rest of the board and refer to people like Dalglish etc.

Under Rafa, most teams had a fear/respect for Liverpool on the pitch. Under Hodgson, Liverpool has a fear/respect for the other team.

They were stupid with Henry coming out and saying they'd back the manager. I'm sure they did it for all the right reasons, but if he's half the businessman he needs to be to sort us out, he won't shy away from staff changes required. I think he should have kept his gob shut, assessed the situation and then maybe said something. Now he'll look a tool if he sacks Hodgson as soon as may be necessary

With all the past references to fergie taking seven years, an LFC fans' favourite for giving managers more time, I don't see many/any saying that fergie nearly got Man Utd relegated therefore Hodgson's da man! :rolleyes

    1989/90

    13. Man Utd P38 PTS 48 (GD -1)
    14. Man City P38 PTS 48 (GD -9)
    15. Palace P38 PTS 48 (GD -24)
    16. Derby P38 PTS 46 (GD +3)
    17. Luton P38 PTS 43 (GD -14)
    ------------------------------------
    18. Sheff Wed P38 PTS 43 (GD -16)
    19. Charlton P38 PTS 30 (GD -26)
    20. Millwall P38 PTS 26 (GD -26)

Just five points off relegation, albeit GD better off. I can see this being the phoenix from the ashes, but I really can't see the manager lasting the distance. It may be only four defeats in 15 overall under Hodgson, but it's one win in eight league games and four defeats. Interesting comparison with Souness in his first 15 games (according to wikipedia start date of 16th April)

    Souness : P15 W8 D3 L4
    Hodgson : P15 W6 D5 L4

Fair enough Souness took over a better squad, but frankly he dismantled the title winning squad and brought in rubbish which led to this barren spell, and Hodgson has already started that way too with signings like Jones, Poulsen, Aurelio (re-signed) and Konchesky. So far on the pitch we've looked worse than last season, were that altogether possible, and his lateness and use of substitutions is worse than Rafa's! 0-2 down after 50 minutes and he waits 21 minutes before making a change. And I wish he'd refuse to speak to the media after games and send out someone else, I really really do. Maybe he could adopt Wenger's approach and when asked about the game say "I didn't see it"

    Clearly a piss take.

I never wanted Hodgson as manager because he's never done enough anywhere to merit such a prestigious job. One of the Sunday papers (can't remember which one) got it spot on saying he's bringing a small club mentality to a big time club, he's so far out of his depth it's ridiculous. I'm prepared to give him my full support until January but if we don't improve markedly lets say not losing more than one game between now and the end of December then he should be eased out with Dalglish taking over, initially for the remainder of the season maybe permanently if results improve.
We have to support Hodgson and the team, we have to give them until January...

Sorry for me no better time than the present to show Roy the door. We need to replace him now, so the new man can come in, if funds are available buy his type of player in the next transfer window. No ifs or buts Roy is so far out of his depth action is needed ASP !

I agree mate.Don't give Roy the funds in the window & then sack him!

Bring in the new man now,so he is given plenty of time to see what type of players we need.

Now Hodgson's trying to talk United into a bid for Torres:

    http://football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_6457134,00.html

    HODGSON FEARS TORRES SWOOP

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted Wayne Rooney's desire to leave Manchester United could mean his star striker Fernando Torres is targeted by their arch-rivals.

But while he said he accepted there was always a chance the Reds could lose players like the Spain international, he was determined to keep Torres.

Rooney's intention to leave United has already sparked speculation about who Sir Alex Ferguson would line up to replace him.

Chelsea were heavily linked with a bid for Torres in the summer which never materialised but Rooney's situation has already sparked rumours about Torres.

The striker, with only one goal to his name, has cut a sorry and frustrated figure this season.

"I think I'd have to say we'd cross that bridge when we come to it," said Hodgson when asked about the threat of United possibly trying to sign Torres.

"I am pretty sure when a great player like Wayne Rooney is looking to leave his club, Manchester United will be in a position to target an awful lot of players around the world.

"I don't think Fernando Torres would be the only player they will be targeting or [we would be] the only club worried their star striker is going to be a target.

"They will have the opportunity to replace him with many star strikers around the world, so all I can say is I am not naive to the situation.

"I am not naive enough to think there is no danger we will ever lose a player like Fernando Torres.

"I can only hope we won't and I will make certain I do everything in my power to keep him happy at the club,

In truth, he'd probably want Torres to leave, so he could bring in Zamora and Nevland

Maybe he doesn't like his players playing in the Spanish way.
