Got to be the worst officials I have seen in some time today (that's saying something as well). Not just the ref but liners too. I didn't see the Ipswich penalty claim where I was sat and didn't notice any shouts but read comments about it. Having said that we had 3 goals chalked off (2 could have been given I think) and the Ipswich keeper literally stood outside his area with the ball in his hands after catching it right in front of the liner! Goal conceeded is a shocker by Pears, no idea what he is doing there but bar that I didn't feel too worried about other goals going in. 2nd half after our subs we were much improved in terms of our attacking play and I really don't think a point would have been undeserved. Ipswich, let's say know how to use the "dark arts". Came into the game having written off hope of any result, ended it disappointed and frustrated we didn't get 1. Couple of golden opportunities, one just needed rolling in. Ipswich lucky today overall.
What are the 2 you think could have been given? The ‘dark arts’ you mention is something we’ve learnt and brought up from league 1. So many league 1 teams tried it against us down there, Lincoln at home springs to mind. We had 33 shots, over 70% possession and lost 0-1.
The one where Szmodics was judged to block the keepers view, not convinced that he did and the one where Wharton goes up to challenge for the ball after a cross with the keeper, it's a 50/50 and the keeper has fumbled it. The dark arts comment was an observation, seen plenty of it in my lifetime, just added to the general frustration and there's part of me thinks we need to be a bit tougher at times too.
I agree with the dark arts thing, Ipswich have been too weak most seasons I’ve been watching them so it’s good to see we can do it now. The 50/50 with the keeper, the ref blew up straight away and the replays show he heads the ball out of the keepers hands. So I’d say correct decision. The other one, I think is right but I’d be annoyed if it were the other way round and we had conceded it.
Is Pears back as your number 1 again? He was at fault for all 4 goals at our place from what I remember earlier in the season and I thought he was replaced not long after.
He got injured a couple of games after that and was out for ages, returned in Feb. Have you seen our number 2 Wahlstedt? He's worse, cost us lots of goals but is young and inexperienced. Losing Kaminski to Luton in the summer has been huge amongst everything else that's gone on behind the scenes.
Definitely was an excellent performance for 60 minutes or so before we got tired with Dennis going off and Leeds started to dominate. Summerville was a threat all game . Take the point as I expected a hammering . Nice to see us attack with purpose then looking fairly solid at the back .
Could prob debate decisions all day I guess but ultimately our keeper dropped a clanger which adds to the overall frustration. Good luck for the rest of the season and oh, please beat Huddersfield on the last day if we make it that far
Another day he won't get a chance as good as that and he'll take every one of them... At least it's still in our hands
After having f*ck all to play for I think that was an excellent performance down Cardiff yesterday. Bellingham’s run for his goal was exactly what we’ve been missing all season, someone who’s willing to get themselves in to a goalscoring position.
I get your point about players operating at a level above their previous standards but 1 or 2 is exaggerating. At the very least, Davis, Woolfenden, Morsy and Hutchinson would all walk into a combined XI.
Leif Davis was the one I was thinking of, we have okay options there but Davis is significantly more well rounded than both Giannoulis and McCallum. I think we're both pretty shaky at CB but Wolfenden loses out to Gibson and Duffy because central defenders shouldn't bleach their hair. If he gets rid of that perhaps you take him for the better age. Sara, Nunez and McLean are all better footballers than Morsy but I guess it might depend on which hypothetical system this East Anglian eleven are playing as we don't have a holding player. Will admit I don't know much about Hutchinson but if he's better than Rowe, Sainz or Sara (seems wide right might be his best position in our setup) then you have a hell of a player on your hands. Well and truly set myself up for some mockery with this post if we lose the game next week.
Considering how he has the Ipswich players massively over-performing, McKenna probably wins the league with 130pts with the Norwich squad.
The amount of shade this Ipswich side gets is ridiculous, but it's always the way with upstart promoted sides. Everyone feels embarrassed for underrating them and so they double down. They are far and away the best side we've played this season. In both games.
The main shade I've seen thrown at Ipswich has been from people saying that they're 'lucky', that's clearly not the case. I've been complementary, I likened them to our 10/11 side which was clearly not as strong as other squads on paper but still went up automatically. If Ipswich go up it's the more intangible stuff that got them there and not straight up down to having better players. McKenna handles the period where we're missing Josh Sargent significantly better I'm sure. In that case it's a 5 way tussle for the autos and not a 4. I've said since before the season started that I think we have the strongest squad outside of the 3 that came down
Millwall have seen both sides of us this season. Awful at their place but could have quite easily won by 5 at home.
