Positioning of the arm, intent or not, end result of the contact... Handballs are so complicated. That mess in the penalty area in the last minute looked like a penalty to me. Still very happy for Eintracht and my man Gacinovic. German football has turned into monotony of record proportions so results like this are so refreshing to see.
The law on handballs needs clarification imo, the referees aren't consistent with it. It's very difficult to judge whether a player had intention or not, very subjective. Gotta be either one extreme or the other, unless the intent is blatant eg a defender handballing on the line to save a goal etc, or just give a handball every time the ball hits the hand, even at point blank range etc no intention.
Frankfurt trainer Nico Kovac has also just said on tv it was a penalty, what is the point of var when it obviously doesn't work ffs !?
and Niko Kovac said after watching the scene in the interview the same. Yes, it was a clear penalty. Funny though that Kevin Prince Boateng was involved in both VAR scenes (and of course with his brilliant pass to Rebic for the 1-0). Anyway a sad departure now for Jupp Heynckes. First the unlucky semi-final against Real and now this lost final. Congrats Frankfurt. Nice to see Eintracht Legend Charly Körbel again...ah yes and Eintracht mascot, Attila the Eagle was in the stadium too.
It's still nice to see someone different win a major trophy though. The scenes when Frankfurt won were glorious.
Yes. And VfB Stuttgart and even RB Leipzig are the "victims". With a Bayern win Stuttgart would be in the EL Qualifiers and RB Leipzig (as 6th) would be directly qualified for the Europa League Group stages. Now Stuttgart is out and RB Leipzig has to play in the 2nd round of the EL Qualifiers......beginning July 26th,11 Days after the end of the World Cup.
3-2 Sechzger, should be enough for promotion to 3.Liga. Is this "jordanian guy" still involved? Or did they get rid of him after he let them "double relegated" from 2nd to 4th tier last season? btw: Paderborn, who did the "rare thing" of being relegated from 1.Bundesliga to 4th tier in 3 successive seasons and was only saved from falling to 4th tier because of the mentioned "double relegation" of 1860 Munich is promoted to 2nd Bundesliga. What rollercoaster years for the fans
What contributed to Paderborn’s constant relegations Dirk? I follow German football intermittently and seen last season they were almost relegated once again.
As I wrote, they were (normally) relegated again last season (it would their 3rd relegation in a row, from 1st to 4th tier) but thanks to the misery of 1860 Munich who got no licence for the 3.Liga they could stay instead. 1860 Munich were relegated from 2nd Bundesliga to 3.Liga but their "Jordanian sugar daddy" let them slip to 4th tier instead because he refused to guarantee some 10m Euro or so to balance their budget for 3.Liga (sorry, can't explain this proper in English) Contributions to Paderborn's constant relegations? First, they were a one year wonder in the Bundesliga. Something like a "miracle" that they could gain promotion to the Bundesliga in 2014 Normally Paderborn is more a 3rd tier club where they played for decades. In the mid 00's they came for the first time to the 2nd tier (with some prominent coaches like Roger Schmidt (later Leverkusen) and Andre Breitenreiter (now Hannover) and in 2014 even to the 1.Bundesliga where they had a very good start but soon realized that this was a bit too heavy for them. So, immediate relegation to 2.Bundesliga and you know how it is, some players left the club and the remaining ones and new ones couldn't stop the fall. They tried something with loudmouth Stefan Effenberg as coach (ex Bayern Munich and Germany International in the 90's) and it looked like it could work with him (he has no special pedigree as a coach mainly only as a "pundit" at Sky Germany) but after a few months it was all over again with this experiment and they were relegated again. And in their first year back in 3.Liga it wasn't any better. 18th (from 20 this time) again and immediate relegation. But thanks to 1860...see above. This season something must've clicked for them. They more than doubled their points (from 44 to 90 this season) and gained promotion to 2nd BuLi. btw: 1860 is promoted to 3.Liga, where they should've played last season. A 2-2 draw with Saarbrücken was enough after the 3-2 away win.
Brandt instead of Sane is daft, the PFA young POTY is miles better. Even if Sane hasn't performed that well for Germany you take a player of his talent for the experience, he's gonna be a big part of Germany's future.
Sane over Reus or Draxler tbh, Brandt had a good season. Reus is perma crocked and Draxler is overrated.
Ah, discussion in the Bundesliga thread? A very rare occasion but what is it about? A "best young player in the Premier League" is dropped from Germany's World Cup squad. I should've known...piss off
Even though Reus gets injured alot he usually hits the ground running as soon as he's back as his stats show (7 goals in 11 league appearances this season). He was Germany's main man going into the last World Cup, cruel that he missed out, so it's good to see him make this one. Draxler has done well for Germany & his versatility will be an asset (he's played well as a central midfielder for PSG this season). So it most likely came down to Sane or Brandt, & there's no case for him to be going to Russia over Sane. Brandt is talented but it's really not a contest. I've seen criticism of Sane's attitude but he seems like a level headed lad so it's a strange one. We're on about Germany though, have you no interest in them?
