Yes ,yes I do. Do you also agree anything less than the appraisal of the game I posted would have lacked the potency required to attract such a rebuff as the one above ?
Ah right - thanks for the correction. People are challenging the sub because it didn't work out, much like if it worked out, it would be called a savvy move. It's one thing if he lost like 2-1 and he saved a bunch of penalties, but when you let 11 in as a "specialist" people will obviously talk about it. The fact that it went to 11 kicks against him is reason enough to question the call. I don't buy the comparison with Salah considering he would only have an effect on one of the PK rounds, and if he misses, he misses (see: England in Euros). They still got some criticism even though I personally think it's as egregious.
Good one… you put in a fair bit of effort for that childish joke or back-peddled massively when realised how deluded you looked. I know which one I think it is.
It's not a regular occurrence to sub your first choice keeper out for a shootout, especially after he'd been playing so well. Mendy also had that major final shootout experience from the AFCON, no matter that it wasn't a save of his in there... Kepa missed the deciding spot kick and didn't make any saves, it will inevitably be a talking point. Also, you gave the footballing gods a chance at narrative, and the footballing gods will never let one slip by!
Kepa's penalty shootout record at Chelsea: vs Liverpool - lost (final) vs Liverpool - lost (final) vs Man City - lost (final) vs Aston Villa - won (R3) vs Southampton - won (R4) vs Eintracht Frankfurt - won (SF) vs Spurs - won (SF) vs Villareal - won (final) Do you notice a theme there @Gal_P?
Not that it matters since they still won but I’m not sure he saved a penalty against us? I know Dier hit his way over the bar. And I thought Lucas hit the post? Dele, Son and Kane didn’t play but besides that I do not remember much. In Kepas defense, we beat Mendy in a shootout the next year.
By all means, I don't wanna downplay winning football games. But I do think winning shootouts isn't solely about the goalkeepers and it is noticeable that 3 shootouts in finals against opposition you'd consider better than them ended up in losses.
I agree with that, he is not good enough in big games. If it wasn’t for Mendy Liverpool probably win in normal time.
Embarrassing how much effort you’re putting into this. The stats back up Kepa is a far better penalty saver (Mendy is also statistically shit at saving them), the fans are happy with the decision, the decision has paid off before and all of the penalties were really good. Shootouts are a lottery and you can only give yourself the best chance by increasing the percentages in your favour where you can. It didn’t work out this time, it was still the correct decision. It’s clear it’s pointless discussing this anymore though as you have your opinion that can’t be budged and I’m bored of repeating myself.
Done it twice now. Once it worked, once it didn’t. All excellent penalties this time around so no complaints. Really don’t know why you care so much and will argue so much about something that makes no difference to you as a Liverpool fan. Just another example of you being a complete lemon. Honestly you’re a really odd chap.
So in four previous shootout wins you subbed him in once, and this was all about "increasing the percentages"....
Why would we sub him on if he’s already playing? It’s like me asking why didn’t Liverpool sub on Salah on Sunday? Because you couldn’t!
