Honestly don't think it's a bad signing tbh, he was fairly impressive last year. Got excellent passing ability and like a few others have said he may very well improve further with better players around him.
I clicked "New posts" ended up in here, said what I thought of the signing, ended up in an arguement so wasn't going walk away. I've posted just as much if not more in the United forum so don't know where you're getting that idea. Looking at who United are linked with all the time is tiring, there are always updates which are usually just made up shite on Twitter, better talking about a done deal than hollow speculation and Adam to Liverpool is a done deal.
I have been reading the last few days he was entering the last year of his contract, had of course one top flight season and to be frank if the fee I read of £7.5m is correctI think that's a little bit high. Still I'd rather be paying £2-£3m more than a player is worth, regardless of remaining contract, than keep throwing £15m+ at players. It's not even like we're bidding for the top echelons of players, it's been Adam, Henderson, and reportedly Downing. If we're trying to buy some of the better players from the rest of the league, or Championship in the case of Adam, we're certainly not in the hunt for bargains. He's maybe 1-2 years too old to have that much potential to 'evolve', and there is always the possibility of 'big fish, small pond' syndrome. I know common theory among LFC fans is that "cross it and he* will score" but I fear the main danger with focusing the team tactics and thinking around Carroll is actually too much hoof. It happens when we're not playing well, none of our signings are immune to not playing well. I know there's more to Carroll than being a target, but it's the one reason I'm glad we sold Crouch and when England don't play him - less temptation. I'd rather, if we were to play long balls, they were diagonal to (wing) forwards running in/at/behind the full-backs. *Carroll
Adam's not exactly inexperienced, has scored in the Champions League and played against big opponents including Barcelona.
Not exactly a world beater , i think Adam will struggle to hold down a starting spot but he should be a decent squad player
Laughable comment and clearly you know nothing. 90% of the time Adam gets the ball himself out of Blackpool's own 25 yard area and carries it forward, looks for the attacking option and will always be around the oppositions 18 yard area at the end of the attack. Not to mention his tracking back. Box to box midfielder for us but apparently he's not mobile in your eyes. You must have watched him every game for 2 and a half seasons then?
I've heard Jay has given up his 26 jersey for him. It's an interesting signing and I'll wait before passing judgement on him. We all know that it'll be totally different playing for a team like Blackpool where he was a big fish to a team like Liverpool. He deserves a chance to see what he can do. I'm sure we'll be more of a threat from set pieces
I'd normally agree, but he's only entering his 2nd season in the Premier League so he may still have some development in him. As for criticisms of his mobility (above) I've always thought that actually mobility was one of his strong points, he's looked capable of running with the ball with ease and can pass too.
Really surprised at all the negativity surrounding Charlie Adams here. For me it's a great signing and at last we now have someone who can create opportunitys when Gerard is unavailable. For too long now we have lacked that imagination when Stevie is out and it has cost us badly at times. Very few created more opportunities than Adams in the Premier League last year and his goals return was pretty impressive too. Throw in the fact that his dead balls are probably the best in the Prem and we have a quality addition here. It was obvious that Kennys had made him a priority signing and the fact that he chased him for 6 months I don't think he has bought him to be a fringe player. I think he will be a regular and this has me wondering could we see Stevie G playing a bit more down the right next season where he could supply Carroll with some real quality service. I could be a way offside here but thought I'd throw it out there. Downing would be another quality signing who is proven Premier League material and a lot better than anyone we have had on the left for quite a while.. I like the way Kenny is buying and hopefully with one or two defensive additions we could really challenge to get back in to the top 4 next year.
I did say "that much" as opposed to none at all ie he could improve, but I can't see it being leaps and bounds (on last season) The problem for me is are you going to drop Gerrard or Merieles for him, play five in midfield or play him on the left? And don't forget of course significant changes of role can impact on a player, you can't stick them in an entirely different role and expect them to do what they did before. (general point, not replying to stret)
Well we probably wont need to drop anyone for him, it seems as tho Aquilani and Merieles are going to be sold. Plus id rather have Charlie Adam than Merieles, the form that Raul showed for about 2 months last year is totally out of character for him and will probably never happen again, He isn't a creative midfielder or a goalscoring midfielder either. Apart from those 5 or 6 games he was no more than decent, and the amount of tackles he pulls out of is discouraging for a CM
Totally agree with you regarding Meireles. Got nothing against the lad, I just don't feel he suits this league. Did tremendously well scoring those goals that brought our season back to life, but as you say, he pulls out of too many tackles, isn't really a play-maker and can't play in the same team as Gerrard, Kuyt and Suarez. Adam meanwhile is more your typical midfielder, he'll probably suit our style more than Raul.
No, just saw him most of last season. I hardly know nothing just because I think he is a poor signing for Liverpool. I just think he'll be out of his depth.
Thing is, we played by far our best last season under Kenny with Gerrard out. Which is encouraging anyway, but Gerrard played a number under the King too. I dunno, I think you overplay that, Suarez for example will create just as many, if not more, than Gerrard. The guy you're responding to is a Blackpool fan.
You're working on the assumption he will progress, for all we know last season might just have been a great season for him and he regresses. Problem is different club, no doubt different role, people more familiar with him etc I'm unconvinced we've signed him to replace X, Y and Z as our local MP suggests (MightyPool) I do feel there is an inclination to get hopes up over new signings and those that they may displace get harsh criticism that, if you were being objective, you could make of the new signings. We'll see is the bottom line, no matter how much I rub my balls they will never be crystal
Adams favorite position is, centre defence, maybe Kenny will play him occasionally in his preffered position. I expect him to rise to such a challenge and come out tops. He's got his chance to wear the Red Shirt and I think he has earned it and respects it.
